Ciacova is a town in Timiş County, western Romania. According 2002 census it had a population of 7285 inhabitants.

Name

In German: Tschakowa; in Hungarian: Csák; in Serbian: Чаково/Čakovo.

Geography

It is located at 28 km (17 mi) from Timişoara. It administers four villages: Cebza, Macedonia, Obad and Petroman.

History

It received the status of town in 2004. At the same time, its villages of Gad and Ghilad were split off to form Ghilad Commune. Dositej Obradović was born in Ciacova.

Demographics

At the 2011 census, the town had 5028 inhabitants, divided in 4328 Romanians, 315 Hungarians, 205 Roma, 90 Germans, 26 Ukrainians.
