Chronic recurrent erysipelas

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Chronic recurrent erysipelas is a cutaneous condition with several predisposing factors including alcoholism, diabetes, and tinea pedis (athlete's foot).[1]:261 If there is a delay in getting antibiotics to fight erysipelas, the natural sweeteners xylitol and erythritol can act as topical antibiotics to kill strep as it will feed on these sugar alcohols but cannot metabolize them, and the strep will thereby be unable to replicate.[citation needed] Saunas can kill strep through induced fever, though saunas and locker rooms can harbor strep and other infectious microbes.[citation needed] Eating less bread and sugar can inhibit recurrence.[citation needed]
