Shooting Incident
[1]On November 9, 2005, an 18-year-old student was shot in the parking lot of Chinguacousy Secondary School shortly before 8:00 a.m., when classes begin. The student managed to make it to the front office, where an ambulance was called. The shooting was not fatal. Students at the school were forced to undergo lock down procedure for the majority of the day as ETF teams searched the school for the shooter. The shooter was not found and it is postulated that he was probably not a student at the school. The event was met with a public outcry regarding the increasing violence between ethnic gangs in the school and in the general area of Brampton. [2]
Stabbing Incident
[3]On January 15, 2008 a 16 year old was stabbed inside the school shortly before 10am. Lockdown procedures were immediately initiated and the School Police Emergency Action Response (S.P.E A.R) program was activated for the safety of the students and staff. Police arrested a 17 year old student following a search of the school. The lockdown was then lifted and classes resumed as normal for the rest of the day. The 16 year old victim was not a student of Chinguacousy and was hit as many as four times in the neck, but the victim's injuries aren't life threatening and he's being kept overnight in hospital for observation.
Pepper Spray Incident
[4]In 2002, Chinguacousy made the headlines for a string of pepper spray incidents during the fall months. The substance had been sprayed into the air of busy hallways, resulting in many students reporting respiratory problems and causing authorities to initially suspect it to be a gassing attack and police to send in the bomb squad. The school was evacuated over ten times during the course of two months (sometimes more than once in a single day) until the Peel Regional Police were able to arrest the culprits—two students looking to get out of class—with the help of tips to Crimestoppers.
