Chikiti (also known as Chikati or Chikitigarh) is a town and a notified area committee in Ganjam district in the state of Odisha, India.

Geography

Chikiti is located at 19°12′N 84°37′E / 19.20°N 84.62°E / 19.20; 84.62.[1] It has an average elevation of 40 m (130 ft).

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[2] Chikiti had a population of 10,801. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Chikiti has an average literacy rate of 63%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with male literacy of 74% and female literacy of 51%. 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Politics

Current MLA from Chikati Assembly Constituency is Usha Devi of BJD, who won the seat in State elections of 2009, 2004 and in 2000 and as a JD candidate in 1990. Previous MLAs from this seat include Chintamani Dayan Samantara who won as independent candidate in 1995 and 1980 and as an INC candidate in 1985, and Jagannath Pati of JNP in 1977.[3]

Chikati is part of Berhampur (Lok Sabha constituency).[4]
