Chikara Season 11

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

CHIKARA's Season 11 took place in 2012. During this season, Die Bruderschaft des Kreuzes was destroyed, the rivalry between Ring of Honor and CHIKARA intensified, and a new enemy would rise in the GEKIDO. According to the Press Herald, 2012 also featured the emergence of Green Ant as a major player. According to the Strathroy Age Dispatch, 2012 was also marked by the development of the Young Lions Cup. According to the Philadelphia Mausoleum of Contemporary Art and two articles by Geekadelphia, 2012 also saw development of CHIKARA's wild lucha libre style. In 2012, CHIKARA received coverage in The Press Herald, the Strathroy Age Dispatch, the Philadelphia Mausoleum of Contemporary Art, Geekadelphia twice, The Deli Magazine, Philebrity twice, Alternative Press, the Journal and Courier, CBS Local, the City Paper, The SouthtownStar, The Phoenix, UPROXX, The Reading Eagle, two articles by Lehigh Valley Live, The Chicago Sun Times, The Classical, The Village Voice, and Frrole.

History

At the close of Season 10, UltraMantis Black reclaimed the Eye of Tyr and ended the Die Bruderschaft des Kreuzes and The Dark Army in order to make good on a promise he made in 2011.[1] Accompanied by fellow Spectral Envoy factionmate Hallowicked, he found Delirious and freed him from the influence of the Eye, hoping to draft him into The Envoy as well. However, Delirious snatched the Eye away, shattered it with a rock, and fled. Seconds later, in perfect English, Delirious issued a proclamation: "I REMEMBER EVERYTHING!"[2]

Season 11 opened at The Thirteenth Hat on January 28th, 2012. It featured Green Ant utilizing the "CHIKARA Special: Green" to defeat the originator of "The CHIKARA Special", Mike Quackenbush; the introduction of "Mr. Touchdown" Mark Angelosetti by Dasher Hatfield; the first clash between partners-turned-enemies Gran Akuma and Icarus; the development of the feud between Ophidian and Hieracon; and the return of Vin Gerard, who had been exiled from CHIKARA during the preceding season.[3] At A Death Worse Than Fate, on February 25th, Archibald Peck's losing streak continued and the feud between Delirious and UltraMantis developed.

The next night, at Caught in the Spider's Den, a love affair between Mark Angelosetti and Veronica Ticklefeather began, Gran Akuma's trial series began, Eddie Kingston successfully defended the Grand Championship against a newly re-instated Vin Gerard, and five masked men who called themselves the GEKIDO attacked Quackenbush, Jigsaw, and The Colony.[3][4]

On March 24th at Green Ice, the GEKIDO attacked The Colony and Quackenbush, 3.0 won the Campeonatos de Parejas, Veronica left Peck for Angelosetti, and Delirious continued to attack UltraMantis. Ophidian aligned with Delirious the next night at It's How You Play The Game. Also at this event, Donst unsuccessfully tried to regain the Young Lions Cup(YLC)[5] and Kingston successfully defended The Grand Championship against Brodie Lee.<[6]

The next month on the 14th, at I'll Be A Mummy's Uncle, Peck donned the identity of Mixed Martial Archie and was ultimately disqualified for excessive violence towards Angelosetti, Akuma faced the second of his trials, and the feud between Donst and Hallowicked continued.[3][7]

According to The Deli Magazine and articles by Philebrity, CHIKARA participated in the 2012 Road to Ruin Fest in April.[8].

On April 28, CHIKARA ran a show in Chicago Ridge, IL.[9] In his debut match, Tianlong's career was ended by 17 with another of "The Seventeen Forgotten Submission Holds" and Donst ambushed Hallowicked during intermission and putting him in the "From Dusk 'til Donst", intensifying their rivalry. After his offer of an alliance was rejected by Kingston at a Ring of Honor show earlier in the month,[10] Kevin Steen returned to CHIKARA for the first time since 2005 in an unsuccessful attempt to win the Grand Championship. Akuma successfully completed the third of his trials, a handicap match against the whole of F.I.S.T.[3] According to the Journal and Courier, CHIKARA ran a show in Lafayette, IN the next night called The Contaminated Cowl. The Colony and The Swarm battled once again, with both teams going for each other's masks before 17 arrived to cause a disqualification, and Gargano and Taylor unseated 3.0 to become the first two-time Campeones de Parejas in CHIKARA's history.[3]

At Aniversario: A Horse of Another Color on May 19th and Aniversario: The Ogg and I on the 20th, Season 11 and Season Three collided as Donst and Hammermeier teamed with The Batiri to face Shane Storm, Crossbones, Jolly Roger, Lance Steel, and Rorschach. Mixed Martial Archie was defeated by Darkness Crabtree in an MMA exhibition. Donst challenged Hallowicked to a lucha de apuesta (mask versus hair) for the upcoming CHIKARAsaurus Rex. Frightmare returned from injury to complete The Spectral Envoy in a multi-team Trios match. Kingston successfully defended the Grand Championship against Jigsaw.[3][11]

June 2nd's CHIKARAsaurus Rex: How to Hatch a Dinosaur was live on iPPV.[12] [13] [14] Ophidian completed his transformation, though he would be defeated by UltraMantis. In a "Loser Leaves Town" match, Mixed Martial Archie and Colt Cabana were defeated by Angelosetti and Hatfield. In CHIKARA's second ladder match, Akuma completed his last trial by defeating Icarus and winning his way back onto the roster. Hallowicked defeated Donst in a lucha de apuesta. Quackenbush returned to action, replacing an injured Fire Ant, in an atomicos match alongside Kingston and the remaining Colony against the GEKIDO, gaining a measure of revenge against 17 for injuring him earlier in the Season. The Young Bucks cashed in their three points to win the Campeonatos from Gargano and Taylor.[3][15] After this event, Peck embarked on a journey through North America, which was soon documented through the "Where In The World Is Archibald Peck?" webseries, and would soon be the focal point of a very strange series of events taking place during both this Season and the next.[16]

The Young Lions Cup tournament began later in the month on the 23rd, at The Foggiest Notion. Strathroy, Ontario's own Leah von Dutch took on Sara Del Rey.[17][3]

At Smack in the Middle, three GEKIDO/CHIKARA mirror matches (Green Ant/deviANT, Jigsaw/The Shard, and Soldier Ant/assailANT) took place and Donst's arrogance was replaced by a crazed desperation as he was defeated by Sara Del Rey (his change in attitude would soon be accompanied by antipathy and disdain towards Hammermeier). Kingston successfully defended the Grand Championship against Hatfield.[3]

At The Great Escape on July 28th in Portland, Maine was the successful debut of The Mysterious and Handsome Stranger. It was announced that, as determined by Wink's CHIKARAbermetrics calculations, Soldier Ant would be forced to join The Swarm for the upcoming King of Trios. Kingston successfully defended the title against Del Rey.[3][18]

According to article coverage that was presented by The Phoenix CHIKARA ran a show on July 29 in Everett. It featured the final bows of Sara Del Rey the development of the Donst and Hammermeier storyline and the Young Lions Cup storylines, and a successful defense of the Campeonatos by The Young Bucks.[3][19][20]

According to The Reading Eagle, Benefit for Baseballtown Charities occurred on on August 12th at the FirstEnergy Stadium. At the event, Sidney Bakabella and his Devastation Corporation debuted and destroyed two young men. Marty Jannetty made an appearance to team with Green Ant against Los Ice Creams. Angelosetti resorted to more bullying tactics during a tag match against F.I.S.T., yet somehow still remaining a technico through it all.[21]

The semifinals of the Young Lions Cup tournament were underway at Shoot A Crooked Arrow on the 17th, as Angelosetti defeated Stone and ACH defeated Hammermeier following interference by Donst. The feud between 3.0 and The Bravados developed. Wink's CHIKARAbermetrics once again affected CHIKARA, as Sugar Dunkerton was moved from The Throwbacks into F.I.S.T. and assailANT took Soldier Ant's place in the Colony.[3]

Ophidian and Delirious officially welcomed The Batiri into their ranks at The Ring of Wax, an event which also saw Quackenbush injure 17 (noticeably upsetting Jigsaw, as it cost him and Quackenbush points). Angelosetti became the 2012 Young Lions Cup champion by defeating ACH.[3]

The first night of King of Trios 2012 was on September 14, 2012 in Easton, PA.[22][23] It was a three night show, running to the 16th. Another CHIKARAbermetrics calculation saw Akuma join 3.0 in a trio, as 3.0's usual partner El Generico was absent. Unfortunately for Wink, all of his created teams that competed (F.I.S.T. being the exception as Dunkerton did not compete in the tournament) were defeated during Round 1. Quackenbush struck again, injuring combatANT. The Devastation Corporation squared off with and came up short against Demolition during a ten man tag gauntlet which eventually saw The 1-2-3 Kid and Jannetty earn two points. The Envoy defeated Team ROH (The Young Bucks and Mike Bennett to win the tournament. This was especially noteworthy for being the first and so far only accolade won by UltraMantis during his entire time in CHIKARA.[3][24]

Dunkerton joined F.I.S.T. in Trios action for the first time at Deep Freeze on October 6th. Angelosetti made his first successful defense of the Young Lions Cup defeating Green Ant. Over this and the next several events, assailANT starting trying to get into the good graces of both the fans and the technico locker room.[25]

Donst began to target Kingston, while The Mysterious and Handsome Stranger had Angelosetti in his sights. This would cost him the life of his friend, the feral pigeon Sapphire, as she was brutally attacked by Angelosetti at Zelda The Great in Chicago on November 10th as noted by The Chicago Sun Times.[3][26]

Quackenbush's vendetta against GEKIDO continued the next day at A Piece of the Action as he targeted The Shard and deviANT, further upsetting Jigsaw. The Mysterious and Handsome Stranger sought revenge for Sapphire at the same event.[27]

At The Cibernetico Rises on the 18th at The Highline Ballroom, as per The Village Voice, Steen and Ring of Honor regulars Jimmy Jacobs, The Briscoes, The Bravados, and The Young Bucks faced Kingston, Frightmare, UltraMantis, Hallowicked, Donst, Akuma, and 3.0 in the Season's Cibernetico. The match turned into Donst vs. Kingston. Donst secured the win, becoming the winner of the 2012 Cibernetico. Outside the Cibernetico match, Jigsaw turned rudo for the first time in several Seasons, turning on Quackenbush and aligning himself with The Shard, the resulting team becoming known as The Pieces of Hate.[3][28]

According to the Philadelphia Mausoleum of Contemporary Art and two articles by Geekadelphia, CHIKARA participated in The Blank Canvas Wrestling Art Show on November 30.

According to Frrole, The Season closed with CHIKARA's 3rd iPPV, Under The Hood on December 2nd. Jigsaw joined GEKIDO to face Quackenbush and The Colony, with assailANT completing his redemption by sacrificing himself to block a superkick from Jigsaw that was intended for Quackenbush. The Mysterious and Handsome Stranger and Veronica were voted CHIKARA Homecoming King and Queen. The Stranger unmasked to reveal that he had been Archibald Peck the entire time. Amasis returned from a one year absence to taunt Ophidian. UltraMantis gained a measure of revenge on Delirious. The 1-2-3 Kid and Jannetty, having secured a third point, made an unsuccessful bid for the Campeonatos. In the main event, two men with a long history[29], Kingston and Donst battled it out for the Grand Championship in a match that ended with two "Backfists to the Future". Afterwards, Hammermeier's separation from Donst continued.[3][30]

In videos that were released at the end of the year, the Eye of Tyr reemerged, Wink Vavasseur's father Conrad showed doubts of his son's ability to operate the organization, and Archibald Peck was reinstated to CHIKARA.[31] This didn't come into play until The Tag World Grand Prix, following Season.[3]
