Cheruvathur is a well growing city in the Kasaragod district, located in the South Indian state of Kerala. It is located 58 km from the district headquarters, Kasaragod town.Main Cheruvathur town has a railway station a bus stand and a large number of shops. It is situated on National Highway 17 (NH 17) between Payyanur and Nileshwaram.
The name comes from "cheriya pathu ooru" (means ten small places). In 2010, the authorities decided to rename the town as Kuttamath Nagar after the poet Kuttamath.[1]
With the ruins of a Dutch Fort on the Veeramala hills as the main attraction, Cheruvathur is located in Kasargod District and is around 10 km south of Nileswaram.
National Highway 17 passes a few kilometers east of the village. Cheruvathur Railway Station is on the Nileshwar-Payyanur line. Cheruvathur is a city in southern Kasaragod district in the state of Kerala, India. It is located 25 km from the district headquarters, Kasaragod town. It is the birthplace of famous persons like Mahakavi Kuttamath,Kanayi Kunhiraman etc.
Tourist attracts
Valiyaparamba
5 km south west of Cheruvathur separated from the mainland by back waters. One of the main tourist spots of the District. This is an island in the Arabian Sea. An ideal place for picnic also a fishing centre.
Veeramala Hills
Situated at Cheruvathur. Hilltop with ruins of a Dutch fort built in the 18th century. A picnic spot from where the natural beauty of Kariangode river and surroundings can be enjoyed.
THEYYAM
A kind of art form seen only in north malabar.
