Cherri Bomb is an American rock band from Los Angeles, California. Formerly an all-female band consisting of drummer/vocalist Nia Lovelis, rhythm guitarist/keyboardist/vocalist Miranda Miller, bassist/vocalist Rena Lovelis and lead guitarist/lead vocalist Julia Pierce, Pierce would be replaced by Casey Moreta in 2013.

Cherri Bomb was managed by Samantha Maloney, former drummer with the American alternative rock band Hole, and was signed to Hollywood Records.

The name Cherri Bomb originated from the book Cherry Bomb  The Ultimate Guide to Becoming a Better Flirt, a Tougher Chick, and a Hotter Girlfriend, and to Living Life Like a Rock Star[1] (2008; ISBN 978-1-416-96116-1) by Carrie Borzillo.

The band released their debut EP, Stark, on October 18, 2011, and their first studio album, This Is the End of Control, on May 15, 2012.

History

Formed in 2008, Cherri Bomb was founded by guitarist Julia Pierce at age 11,[2] who wanted to start an all-girl rock band upon moving to California. Putting flyers throughout Los Angeles and searching online, Pierce found drummer Nia Lovelis and guitarist Miranda Miller. Still needing a bassist, Lovelis' sister, Rena Lovelis, decided to join the band as well after learning to play bass.[3] According to Pierce, "We went from rehearsing once or twice a weekend to being home schooled and rehearsing every day. We went from playing covers in a really small music shop to performing at Reading Festival and Soundwave Festival in Australia".[2]

On June 14, 2011, they signed to Hollywood Records.[4] The band released their debut EP, Stark on October 18, 2011.

The band were opening acts for rock bands, including Bush, Camp Freddy, Filter, Foo Fighters, The Smashing Pumpkins, Staind and Steel Panther.[4][5] They have also played European festivals, including Oxegen in Ireland (the youngest act to appear), T in the Park in Scotland, Sonisphere and the Reading and Leeds Festivals.[6]

In February 2012, they played the Soundwave festival in Australia,[7] and opened for Bush and Staind.

The band released their debut studio album, This Is the End of Control, on May 15, 2012, which charted on Billboard's Top Hard Rock Albums at number 24 and Top Heatseekers at number 11.[8] They appeared on the Warped Tour in JulyAugust 2012.[9][10]

In August 2012, they toured with the Welsh rock band Lostprophets.[11]

On October 29, 2012 the band’s manager, Samantha Maloney resigned.

On January 23, 2013, the band announced on their Facebook page that Cherri Bomb had parted ways with Julia Pierce. When asked the reasoning behind Pierce's departure, Miranda Miller commented on her Tumblr that it was due to "creative differences" and that "we went our separate ways because we wanted to go in one direction and she wanted to go in another". She also stated "it’s for the better and none of us are giving up on what we love to do".Hollywood Records later dropped the band from their label, due to Julia's departure.[12]

On February 10, 2013, Uber Rock interviewed Julia Pierce about the departure. When asked why the band departed and how she felt, Julia stated that "there was definitely a lack of communication and respect, and it became a very uncomfortable environment for me" and that the whole situation "was all very sudden and unexpected. I was actually just as shocked as most of the fans were". She stated that she as well as her fans thought she handled the situation maturely and she also added that she's "starting a new project...I'm ready to go full blast with this. I'm still going to do what I love most: Singing my heart out, shredding on guitar, and playing rock n' roll.[13]

On March 9, 2013 Casey Moreta was asked to join the band while performing on stage at the Viper Room.
