Cheriton Fitzpaine is a Red Devon village, a couple of miles off the main Crediton to Tiverton road. It has many fifteenth-century houses, including the longest thatched house in England (The old Primary School, there is now a newer building which houses the school). The Church of St Matthew (Church of England) is a Gothic style church. There is also a Methodist Church in the village. The Almshouses date from 1594.
The village also has two pubs, The Half Moon and The Ring of Bells; a Drama Group; a Football Club and a Cricket Club and recently have had a new school opened.

Cheriton Fitzpaine primary school
The school building dating back to 1642 is the oldest thatch long house in the village, former use thought to have been that of the church house. In 1875 a school board was formed and the school started, with the local attendance officer as clerk to the board.[1] With the addition of school house to the teaching space in 1983, this accommodated growing numbers, as well as providing the school space for an outdoor swimming pool. The School is currently campaigning for a new school to be built. The land has been acquired and plans are being drawn up in readiness for funding.This has been a long process begun by a pupil letter writing exercise in 1998. Students wrote to downing street receiving a reply back, this can be read on the schools website . Work began on the new school in September 2009 and finished in October 2010. it was officially opened in November.
Jacks Acre
The local community is fortunate to have access to a large field for which many have seen the benefit. One such use is the schools sports days and games lessons. The parish council maintain the field and seek to make continual improvements the most recent addition being that of a basketball hoop.[2]
Under elevens playground
This playground is situated just off the main street and is used by all locals,the equipment contained here is of swings and play tractor. It is maintained by the parish council who seek local input into the equipment contained and ideas of improvements that could be made.
Village pubs
The Ring of Bells and the Half Moon Inn have been serving the village for over 150 years. and are mentioned in the directories of Kelly 1893 and Whites of 1850.
World Record holders
The Cricket Club held the world record for the world's longest cricket marathon. Previously 26 hours and 13 minutes and held by a French team, the record was broken by over an hour on 24 and 25 June 2006. Cornwall Cricket Club, Auckland, New Zealand now hold the record at 100 hours.
