Chengdu–Mianyang–Leshan Intercity Railway, the first inter-city railway line in the central and western regions of Sichuan, China and a major project in the reconstruction of Sichuan after the earthquake in May 2008.[1] The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) officially approved the construction of the passenger railway line running from Mianyang to Chengdu and Leshan. The line started construction in 2008 and was expected to be completed by 2012, however it was delayed as with all High-Speed Rail projects after the Wenzhou Train Accident in 2010. Upon completion of the inter-city line, it will only take 51 and 54 minutes respectively to travel by train from Chengdu to Jiangyou and Leshan situated at both ends of the line. Trains can easily pass through 10 cities within two hours.

Route

Under the plan, the Chengdu-Mianyang-Leshan inter-city railway line starts at the upgraded Chengdu Railway Station, going north through Deyang to Mianyang, stopping at Jiangyou. Southbound, the railway line will pass through Chengdu Shuangliu Airport to Meishan and Emei, ending in Leshan. The length of the two-way passenger line will total 323 km, with a designed speed of 200 km/h and a total investment of RMB 28.05 billion. The line is expected to take 48 months to build and the whole line is newly built railway. Upon completion, 10 cities, namely Jiangyou, Mianyang, Deyang, Guanghan, Chengdu, Pengshan, Meishan, Jiajiang, Emei and Leshan, will be linked running from north to south.

According to plan, there will be 21 stations along the Chengdu-Mianyang-Leshan inter-city line. Like public buses, the inter-city rail will run from 6 am in the morning till 11 pm at night. During peak hours, a train will leave the station every few minutes. Passengers can literally take a train at any time.
