Chen Reiss
Chen Reiss (born 1979) is an Israeli operatic soprano, particularly known for her portrayal of Gilda in Verdi's Rigoletto.
Career
Chen Reiss was born and raised in Herzliya, Israel. After initially studying ballet, she switched to singing at fourteen.[1][2] She started her vocal studies in Israel but moved to New York at the age of 20. Three years later she was accepted at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, followed by debuts at La Scala and opera houses in Berlin, Paris, Hamburg and Vienna.[3] She appeared at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York, Vienna State Opera, Bavarian State Opera, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Hamburg State Opera, Opera Company of Philadelphia, the Israeli Opera and other venues.[4]
She has collaborated with the Pittsburgh Symphony,[5][6] the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra,[7] Vienna Philharmonic, Staatskapelle Berlin,Munich Philharmonic, Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin, Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre National de France, Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg and conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Ivor Bolton, Daniele Gatti, Daniel Harding, Manfred Honeck, Marek Janowski, Paavo Järvi, James Levine, Zubin Mehta, Donald Runnicles, Jeffrey Tate and Christian Thielemann.[4]
Her solo CD with songs and arias by Mozart, Schubert, Spohr and Lachner accompanied by the WDR Radio Orchestra was released in 2009. Another CD with Italian songs by Schubert and Donizetti was released in 2007.[8] Her CD "Liaisons" was awarded a "Diapason d'Or" by French magazine Diapason in 2011. Her latest album "Le Rossignol et la Rose" with pianist Charles Spencer was released in November 2012.[9][10]
