Chef is an upcoming American comedy film directed, co-produced, written by and starring Jon Favreau.[1] The film co-stars Robert Downey, Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sofía Vergara, Dustin Hoffman, and John Leguizamo. It is set to release in the U.S. on May 9, 2014.[2]

Plot

When Miami-born chef Carl Casper (Jon Favreau) tries and fails to open a restaurant in Los Angeles, he returns to Miami to fix up a food truck he names El Jefe Cubanos[3] and reacquaints with his ex-wife (Sofía Vergara). He plans to drive across the country to reclaim his success in L.A.[4]

Cast

Production

On April 25, 2013, Variety posted that Jon Favreau would be directing, writing and starring in his next comedy project titled Chef.[1] On June 12, 2013, it was announced that Open Road Films had acquired the US distribution rights to the film while Aldamisa Entertainment is financing and producing the film.[9] Production began in Los Angeles in July 2013.[10]

Casting

On May 10, 2013 Robert Downey, Jr. joined the cast.[5] Sofía Vergara, John Leguizamo and Bobby Cannavale were already set to star in the film.[7] On May 15, 2013, Scarlett Johansson was cast as Molly, a restaurant manager and a love interest of Favreau.[6] On July 15, 2013, Dustin Hoffman also joined the cast to co-star with Favreau and Downey.[8]

Filming

Filming started in August 2013 in Miami, at the Versailles restaurant and at the Fontainebleau Hotel. The film will also be shot in New Orleans and Austin.[3][4]

Reception

Release

In June 2013 Open Road Films announced the film would be released on May 9, 2014.[2]
