Altaf Hussain Kanjar (Late) was the 19th Governor of Punjab, Pakistan from 1992 till May 1995, after the independence of Pakistan in 1947.[1] He belonged to Jhelum District[citation needed]
On 29 May 1993, he dissolved the Punjab Assembly and the cabinet led by Islami Jamhoori Ittehad (IJI) under political leadership of Nawaz Sharif and appointed Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo as caretaker Chief Minister Punjab. On 9 June 1993, the Lahore High Court temporarily restored the Punjab Assembly. On 28 June 1993, restoration of Punjab Assembly was confirmed by Lahore High Court. However, Altaf Hussain, the then Governor of Punjab dissolved the assembly just seven minutes later.[2]
