The Charlotte County Redfish was a team of the South Coast League, based in Port Charlotte, Florida. The team was not affiliated with Major or Minor League Baseball. They played at the Charlotte Sports Park.
The name "Redfish" refers to the redfish that is native to Florida's Gulf Coast waters.
The team initially suspended operations for 2008 due to reconstruction of Charlotte Sports Park for the Tampa Bay Rays spring training operations. Although they intended to return in 2009, the South Coast League folded before they could return, and the team folded as well after the Rays made plans to move their Advanced-A Florida State League affiliate to Port Charlotte, creating the Charlotte Stone Crabs.
History
The team's first manager was Jackie Hernández. He resigned in June 2006.
