Charlie Collins (politician)
Charlie Collins (born 1962) is an American politician.[1][2] He serves as the Republican member of the Arkansas House of Representatives for District 84, which encompasses part of Washington County, Arkansas.[1][2]
Collins is a candidate for lieutenant governor in the May 2014 Republican primary election. His opponents include his legislative colleague Andy Mayberry of District 27 in Saline County.[3]
Biography
Early life
He graduated from Franklin High School in Livonia, Michigan.[1] He graduated in 1985 from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. He received a master's degree in 1986 in quantitative economics from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.[1][4]
Career
He started his career at Procter & Gamble in 1990, where he was a Brand Manager in Cincinnati, Ohio, and in Arkansas in 1996. He later worked for Eastman Kodak as Sales Vice President, as Team Leader at Walmart and Sam's Club, and as Vice President of the H. J. Heinz Company in Arkansas.[4] In 2005, he joined Crown Partners Executive Search, LLC, an executive search, recruiting and consulting firm.[4]
He has served as a state representative for District 84 since 2011 and he was re-elected in 2012. The position was formerly held by another Republican Jon Eubanks of Logan County, who was moved to District 74.[1][2] During his first term, he was a member of the House Agriculture, Forestry and Economic Development Committee, the House Revenue and Taxation Committee, and the Legislative Joint Auditing Committee, where he was vice chair of the Subcommittee on Educational Institutions.[1] In his second term, he is a member of the Legislative Joint Audit Committee, Insurance and Commerce Committee, and the House Revenue and Taxation Committee.[1]
He has introduced a bill to allow faculty at the University of Arkansas to use concealed carry handguns on campus as long as they have a Firearms license.[2][5] He has also proposed a bill to reduce the state income tax.[6]
Personal life
He is married to Leeann Collins, and they have two sons and two daughters.[1] They live in Fayetteville, Arkansas.[1][4] He is a Protestant.[1]
