Chandra Bhanu Gupta (Hindi: चंद्र भानु गुप्ता) (14 July 1902[1] – 11 March 1980[2]) was chief minister of Indian state of Uttar Pradesh for three times. He was born in Aligarh district in 1902.

Early life

Gupta got involved in the freedom struggle at the early age of 17, when he took part in anti-Rowlatt Bill demonstrations in Sitapur.[3]

At the age of 27 he was elected President of Lucknow city Congress.[3]

Social contribution

C. B. Gupta was the main force behind Motilal Nehru Memorial Society which set up various educational, social welfare and cultural centres in Lucknow. These include Ravindralaya, Children Museum, Bal Vidya Mandir, Acharya Narendra Dev Hostel, Homeopathic Hospital, a number of Degree Colleges and a Public Library in Lucknow. Actively advised by Nirmal Chandra Chaturvedi, he introduced a number of schemes for social, cultural and educational development of the city.
