Chandee, also spelled as Chandi, is a 2013 Telugu film directed by V. Samudra starring Priyamani,[3][4] R. Sarathkumar,[5] Ashish Vidhyarthi and Krishnam Raju in the lead roles, and Ali and MS Narayana as key comedians.[6] [7] Scarlett Wilson appears in an Item number. [8]

The film was formally launched in 31 January 2013,[9] with its principal photography beginning on 30 October 2012. Filming was held for more than eight months and took place primarily across Hyderabad, Rajamundry and Bangkok, Thailand. The film, which was supposed to hit screens on first week of October 2013, was postponed due to the political unrest in Andhra Pradesh [10] and finally released on 8 November 2013.[11]

Cast

Production

Chandee was officially launched on 1 Feb 2013 at Ramanaidu Studios in Hyderabad.[10] Shooting of the film will be completed in four schedules. The movie has script by Karanam P. Babji, art direction by Venkateswarlu Mallela, edits by Nandamuri Hari, cinematography by Vasu. While the compositions are given by NR Shankar and Chinna, Chandi has the screenplay and direction by Samudra.[12] Movie is presented by Jagannadha Naidu and producer is Dr. Srinubabu G under the banner OMICS Creations. Priyamani is playing a warrior in this social, period drama.[13] Krishnam Raju is playing Priyamani's father and village elder. After finding success in movies with a historic backdrop like Thandra Paparayudu, Bobbili Brahmanna and Palanati Pourusham, the actor is all set to play Ashok Gajapathi Raju in Chandee.[14]

Soundtrack

The film score and soundtrack of Chandee were composed by Chinna and Nr Sankar who composed the Music for Simha, The soundtrack, consists of six tracks, with lyrics penned by Bhaskara Batla Ravi Kumar, and Ramajogayya Sastry and renowned poet Chandrabose.[15]

Breaking away from the usual drum beat, the composer has digitised the sound, and it ends up sounding run down electronic dance number. Lyrics by Bhaskarbhatla are well pretty innocuous punning on the English alphabets. Kailash Kher's shrill voice tone is the good saving grace of the patriotic number Alluri Sitharamaraju[16] The audio released got good response, and the filmmakers of Chandi movie celebrated platinum disc function to share its audio success.[17][18]

Priyamani is riding the success wave of Chennai Express where she shook a leg with Shah Rukh Khan in the item number. The national award-winning actress juggles her films in different languages effectively.Priyamani throws light on her forthcoming film Chandee on 8 November 2013.</ref>[19][20][21]

Critics

Priyamani has acted well in action scenes and emotional scenes and some of her punch dialogues like ‘Samudram lo ala ni chudu, silent ga untadi..Tsunami ni chudaki, violent ga untadi’ were good. Krishnam Raju and Sharath Kumar has done their respective roles very well. Posani’s role and anthakshari of cops and gangsters were not impressive. Many problems prevailing in the society were projected and how villagers are being cheated and becoming homeless with SEZ’s was the centre point of the movie, rated at 2.5/5.[22] Chandi is a revenge drama, which has all commercial elements to impress the mass audience. Priyamani's electrifying performance is the main highlight in the movie. The arresting screenplay and punch dialogues, Vasu's cinematography, NR Shankar and Chinna's background score, good comedy and action sequences are its other attractions. A few illogical scenes in the second half are its drawback and rated 2.0/5[23] and 123telugu rated 1.5/5 criticizing There is no emotional conviction in the film. Despite issues like land grabbing etc, the scenes do not make any impact on viewers highlighting plus points Krishnam Raju looks regal as Ashok Gajapathi Raju. Priyamani looks good in a few scenes. Posani manages to tickle the funny bone in one or two scenes.[24]
