Champion Energy Services, LLC is a retail electricity provider (REP) based in Houston, Texas. Champion Energy currently serves residential, governmental, commercial and industrial customers in deregulated electric energy markets in Texas, Illinois, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York; governmental, commercial and industrial customers in Ohio and Maryland; and natural gas customers in Illinois.[1] The company is backed by Texas-based Crane Capital and EDF Trading North America, LLC.[2]
History
Champion Energy Services, LLC was first licensed by the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) in 2004.[3] After entering the market in 2002, Champion has seen strong growth and currently serves around 1,000,000 residential customer equivalents, with a peak load of near 2,600 megawatts.
J.D. Power and Associates Rankings
The company has ranked "Highest in Residential Customer Satisfaction with Retail Electric Service, Three Years in a Row" according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2010-2012 Texas Residential Retail Electric Provider Customer Satisfaction Studies℠. Champion Energy Services received the highest numerical score among residential electric service providers in Texas in the proprietary J.D. Power and Associates 2010, 2011 and 2012 Texas Residential Retail Electric Service Satisfaction Studies℠. In addition to being the first electric provider to win this award for three consecutive years, their 2012 score of 756 on the 1,000 point scale was the highest satisfaction score ever recorded since the report began.[4] The 2012 study based on responses from 7,619 consumers measuring 21 providers and measures consumers' satisfaction with their electric service provider based on four criteria: price, billing and payment, communications and customer service.[5]
