Gulshan Ara Akter Champa (Bengali: গুলশান আরা আখতার চম্পা) is a Bangladeshi film actress, Model and also popular TV Actress.[2][3] Champa's introduction to the glamour world took place through her fascination for modelling.[4] Champa won her first national film award and the Jotibaso award for the film ‘Padma Nadir Majhi’ and she also received national film award for the films ‘Onno Jibon’, ‘Uttorer Khep’, ‘Shasti’ and ‘Chandragrohon’.[5]

Early life

Champa was born, In the fifties of the twentieth century in Khulna Division in the town of district Jessore Circuit House Rabia Manzil in front of the ancestral house. Her birth date is 5th January. She is the younger sister of actress Bobita and Shuchanda.[6]Champa is fifth in the familly of three sisters and three brothers.

Career

TV career

In 1981, Champa started her career with BTV drama Dub Satar in which she played a girl who can foretell the future. She played a different role of "Dub Satar". As a result, he offers more dramas and started in Sahabjadir Kalo Nekab, Akash Bariye Dao, Khola Daroja, Ekti Joddo Anno Ekti Meye, Apoya, Ekhane Nongor"" etc drama. He has gained popularity in the drama.[7]

Around 20 years ago, popular film actress Champa and promising TV actress and singer Swagota had performed together in a full-length Bangla feature film titled “Top Mastan,” which was directed by Fazal Ahmed Benazir. In that movie, then child actress Swagota performed in role of Champa’s childhood life. Swagota was only six years old during that time. Legendary heroine Shabnam performed in role of Swagota’s mother in the film, while Abul Hayat acted in role of her father.[8][9] After a break of 20 years, Champa and Swagota have performed together in a telefilm titled “Atotpor Bhalobasa,” which was directed by Tonmoy Tansen under the script written by Mujtaba Soud. In this telefilm, they performed in roles of two girlfriends. Shooting of the telefilm began yesterday at shooting house ‘Mondira’ in the city’s Uttara area.[10]

Set to the ambiance of the Liberation War in 1971, the play is written by Masum Reza, directed by Abu Sufian Biplob and also features seasoned actor Tariq Anam Khan. Renowned actor of silver screen Champa plays the lead role of a brave woman named Tarabanu in the single-episode play Sedin Tarabanu Aj Tarabanu.[11]

Film career

Champa arrivals film in 1986, Shibli Sadik's directed film Tin Konna.[12] This film produced by her elder sister Shuchanda. All three sister (Shucanda, Babita, Champa) played in this film. The film Champa played a police inspector role.

In 1988 to 1992, Champa was the heroine of a number of commercial cinema. She played a vital role of Drama, Action and also Romance film. Champa acted other mentionable movies are: ‘Bheja Chokh,’ ‘Sohojatri,’ ‘Neetiban,’ ‘Kashem Malar Prem,’ ‘Abujh Hridoy,’ ‘Bashona,’ ‘Andho Prem,’ ‘Prem Diwana,’ ‘Banechha Pori,’ ‘Jogajog,’ ‘Tyagh,’ ‘Gorjon,’ among others.[13]

Besides winning at home, in her long career in films Champa has earned international acclaim doing films under the direction of renowned filmmakers such as Goutam Ghosh and Buddhadev Dasgupta. Watching the play Ekhaney Nongor, Goutam Ghosh chose Champa for the role of Mala of his epic film Padma Nodir Majhi. She has also performed in Buddhadev Dasgupta's Lal Dorja, Sandip Ray's Target and latest Goutam Ghosh's Abar Aranye.[14]

Personal life

In 1982, Champa married with businessman Shahidul Islam khan. She has only daughter Esha.[15][16][17] Multiple National Award-winning actress Champa's daughter, Esha, recently got married to Tanvir Ahmed, son of entrepreneur and former chairman of BGMEA, Kutubuddin.[18] Champa's relatives are Shuchanda (sister), Omar Sunny (Nephew), Moushumi (Niece in Law), Riaz (Cousin). Champa, who started her acting journey with "Babita" and has worked in 300 Bangladeshi films so far, now wants to spend more time with her family and close friends.[19]
