Chalisgaon  pronunciation  is a city and a municipal council in Jalgaon district in the state of Maharashtra, India.

Chalisgaon is the second largest tehsil after Bhusawal in Jalgaon district. Villages under Chalisgaon administration include Alwadi,Kodagaon, Bahal, Bhoras, Devali, Hirapur, Jamda, Kargaon, Mehunbare, Patonda, Pilkhod, Ranjangaon, Saygaon, Umbarkhed, and Waghali, Hatgaon,Wadale-Wadali.


Geography

Chalisgaon is located at 20°28′N 75°01′E / 20.47°N 75.02°E / 20.47; 75.02.[1] It has an average elevation of 344 metres (1128 feet).

Special

The world famous mathematician and philosopher Bhaskaracharya is from Challisgaon. The world famous artist Keki Moos was from Chalisgaon. India’s well known personalities, such as Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru (Prime minister of India), Baba Amte (social worker and follower of Vinoba Bhave, Jaiprakesh Narayan, Shankar Rao Dev, Sane Guruji (Pandurang Sadashiv Sane). Pt. Mahadev shastri Joshi. Maharshi Anna Saheb Karve, Narayan Hari Aapte (writer) Prof. N. S. Phadke, shri M. Mate, Acharya Atre, Vasant Shantaram Desai visited Keki’s museum.

The Belganga Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana(Belganga Sugur Factory) is located at Bhoras in Chalisgaon. The famous Gautala wild life sanctuary is near from Chalisgaon Pitalkhora caves and Patnadevi (ancient temple of Hindu Goddess) are there. Chalisgaon has been a supplier of milk for Mumbai from many years.Chalisgaon is also famous for lemon parks.Lemons are exported to Surat(Gujrat), Mumbai and other Major cities of India.

Transport

Chalisgaon is one of the important railway junctions under Bhusawal division of Central Railways. Situated on the Mumbai-Bhusawal railway line, this junction offers connectivity to Dhule. A slip route of around 57 km is connected to Dhule city from Chalisgaon. Trains stopping at Chalisgaon include Punjab Mail, Jhelum Express, Howrah Mail, Vidarbha Express, Sevagram Express, Nagpur Pune Express, Maharashtra Express, Bhusaval Pune Express, Dadar Amritsar Express, Janata Express, Kashi Express, Kamayani Express, etc.

Chalisgaon is at the junction of important highways viz. NH-211 Dhule-Aurangbad-Solapur, SH-18 Malegaon-Chalisgaon-Pachora-Bodwad-Nagpur and SH-24 Chalisgaon-Nandgaon.

Tourist Attractions

Chalisgaon has tourist attractions. Patanadevi is a Hemadpanthi temple and archaeological site. It is surrounded by the dense vegetation of the Gautala Outram Ghat Wildlife Sanctuary. During the Monsoons the Dhawaltirtha Waterfall is active in the mountains. Also Girna Dam is popular place when its overflowed. The mountains have numerous caves, including Pittalkhora Caves, and the cave where Digambar Jain Saint Bhavsagar Maharaj was given his last rituals. Mudaidevi temple is situated on the banks of the river Titur between Waghali and Patonda two major towns. The world famous Ajanta and Elloracaves located in Aurangabad district are at a distance of 110 and 65 km respectively.
