Chalfont Wasps F.C. are a football club based in Chalfont St. Giles, near Amersham, England. They were established in 1922 and were founding members of the Chiltonian League in 1984. For the 2013–14 season they are members of the Hellenic Football League Division One East, having been demoted from the Premier Division at the end of the 2008–09 season due to their ground not meeting the requirements for that division.
History
Chalfont Wasps Football Club was formed in 1922. Proir to 1984, the club played in the Wycombe Combination, but became founder members of the Chiltonian League Division One. In 1985–86, Chalfont were relegated to Division Two, which was later renamed Division One. After fiinshing third, they were promoted to the Premier Division which they stayed in for three seasons before being relegated back to division One. They were promoted again in 1993–94 after securing the runners-up spot. Two years later they were relegated again, only to return after a fifth-place finish. The Chiltonian League merged with the Hellenic Football League in 2000, and Chalfont were placed in Division One East. They were runners-up in 2006–07, and won the league the following season to gain promotion to the Premier Division. However, Chalfont only lasted one season before being relegated, despite a seventh-place finish. The club entered the FA Vase for the first time in 2008–09, but were knocked out in the Second Qualifying Round. As of 2012–13, they remain in Division One East.[1]
Ground
Chalfont Wasps play their home games at The Nest, The Playing Fields, Crossleys, Bowstridge Lane, Chalfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire, HP8 4QN.
The Wasps' ground was featured in David Bauckham's book Dugouts, which notes the incongruity of the dugouts being built directly in front of (and therefore obscuring the view from) the only covered area available for spectators.[2]
