Introduction

Chainpur one of the largest villages of Saharsa district in the Indian state of Bihar in North-East India, and is in the Kosi Division. Chainpur has a number of tolas and occasionally called Pubari, Pachhwari, Uttarwari and Dakshinwari tola.

Chainpur is part of Kahra Block. Chainpur is located in among Bariahi, Bangaon, Parari and Mahishi.

Geography

Chainpur and its surrounding areas are a flat alluvial plain forming part of the Kosi river basin. This makes the land very fertile.

Flooding is a major reason for the poor connectivity of the area as bridges tend to get washed away.

Agriculture

Paddy, wheat, moong, maize, sugarcane etc. are the main crops of this village. vegetables viz. potato, cauliflower, brinjal, carrot, raddish, lady finger etc, are cultivated in this village.

Art and Culture

Kaali puja, Holi and Durga Puja are the main festival of Chainpur. Janmashtami, shivaratri, hanuman jayanti etc. are also celebrated with full zest and fervour. Sama Chakeva, chhath, chaurchan etc. are other festivals of this village. There are several places of worship in this village. The neelkanth mandir, which is a very old shiv mandir, is famous for its architectural excellence. Kaali mandir (old & new), durga mandir (oldest worship place of this village), vishnu mandir, radha krishn kuti, brahm baba sthan, etc. are other place of importance. Every year, a grand mela is organised on the occasion of kaali puja in this village.

Education

Chainpur is famous for its intellectuals, engineers, doctors, teachers, and professionals.

High School, Chainpur, Shashikala Middle school, chainpur (First School of Chainpur, established by Shri Harekrishna Mishra 'Chainpuri') Girls middle school, chainpur and dozen of primary schools. One college by the name of Bhagirath Kaalika Sanskrit College is also operating from this village.

Freedom fighters

Late Shri Virendra Mishra alias Harekrishna Mishra 'Chainpuri' fought for freedom against English. Late Bhola Thakur laid his life for the cause of this land during Quit India Movement.

Miscellaneous

In 2012, a marathon was successfully organised in Chainpur on 13 Nov. 2012 to spread awareness for development in Chainpur and adjoining areas.

On 6-7 April 2013, a mega medical camp 'Chainpur Swasthya Mela 2013' has been organised in Chainpur, where about 5000 patients of nearby 30 villages have been given medical advice and medicines absolutely free. This camp was organised by the Facebook Group Chainpur under the leadership of famous doctor duo Dr. Naresh Jha and Dr. Binod Kumar Thakur.

A NGO by the name SAMADHAN CHAINPUR is operating from this village.

Madhukant Jha 'Madhukar' belongs to Chainpur who is famous for his nachari, maheshwaani and devi bhajan.
