Chad Dewey
Chad Dewey (born May 2, 1973)[1] was the 2012 Republican candidate for the 96th District of the Michigan House of Representatives. This district encompassed the Kawkawlin, Monitor, Bangor, Frankenlust, Hampton, Merritt, Portsmouth townships in addition to Bay City and Essexville.[2][3] He placed second to Incumbent Charles Brunner[4] in the general election with 12,428 out of 40,691 votes.[5]
He sought the State Representative post after seeking the Republican nomination for United States Senator from Michigan.[6][7][8]
Professional Background
Soon after high school, Dewey opened a successful small business, but later ended the business venture to focus on his family.[9] Dewey's early career included 8 years as a Pressman and 3 years as a Biller/Estimator at Quebecor World. In 2006 he was hired by the Dow Chemical Company as a Process Technician. Soon after graduating with his Masters from Davenport University in 2010,[10] he began working as an Adjunct Faculty Member at Davenport University teaching Information Technology courses.
Education
After several years in the work force, Dewey returned to school to receive an Associate in Applied Science, with Honors, in Network Technology from Delta College in 2005. He then transferred to Davenport University where he earned a Bachelor of Applied Science, with Honors, in Network Security in 2008 then continued on to earn a Master of Science in Information Assurance in 2010.[9]
Political Stances
Dewey described himself as a "Pro-Liberty Conservative Constitutionalist" and referenced Ron Paul and Justin Amash as his biggest political influences.[11] Dewey has been quoted to be strongly in favor of eliminating Michigan's Corporate Tax and Personal Income Tax[12] citing states that have been successful without them.[13][14] Because of his stances on limited government, individual rights, and free market principles, he was endorsed by the Republican Liberty Caucus[15] and the National Federation of Independent Business.[16] Dewey described himself as a strict Constitutionalist who favored the preservation of liberty. He opposed tax incentives, which he likened to picking winners and losers, and supported a free market that would be allowed to work without government intervention.[11]
Candidacy
Dewey initially declared his intent to seek the Republican nomination for United States Senate in 2011,[6][8] but withdrew from that race[7] and put his support behind Scotty Boman.[17] He then ran unopposed for ninety sixth District state representative[18] in the Republican primary on August 7, 2012. He lost the November 6 general election to Democrat State Representative Charles Brunner[4] with 12,428 out of 40,691 votes.[5]
