Central National-Gottesman, Inc. is one of the world's largest distributors of pulp, paper, paperboard, and newsprint. The firm's products are sold in over 75 countries, through a network of 43 offices located in the United States and abroad.

With annual revenues exceeding $3 billion, Forbes ranked Central National-Gottesman 137th in its annual list of "The Largest Private Companies".[1] Family Business Magazine ranked the firm 228 on its list of "The World's Largest Family Companies".[2]

Founded in New York City in 1886 as M. Gottesman & Company, the firm was substantially expanded under D.S. Gottesman, in the first half of the twentieth century.

The company has grown both organically and acquisition. In 1984 they acquired Lindenmeyr Paper Corporation;[3] D.F. Munroe Company in 1988; Communication Paper Corporation in 1991;[4] and, Perkins & Squier Company in 1998.[5]

The company was run by Ira D. Wallach into the late 20th century. His son, James G. Wallach was CEO until his death in 1998.[6] Today, the firm is run by his brother, Kenneth L. Wallach,[6] with fourth and fifth generation Gottesman family members active in the firm.
