The Catocalini are a tribe of noctuoid moths, placed in subfamily Catocalinae of family Noctuidae. In the alternative arrangement, where Noctuidae are reduced to the core group around the Noctuinae, the old Catocalinae are disbanded and the Catocalini are merged with the Erebini and upranked to become a subfamily of the reestablished family Erebidae. When ranked as subfamily, they are often named Erebinae, though the name Catocalinae is older.

Most subtribes (tribes in the "Erebidae" arrangement) are small, but some such as the Toxocampina and the Ophiusina contain many genera.

The subtribes are:

Additionally, some include here a group of moths around the genus Araeopteron, otherwise held to belong to the tribe Eublemmini of subfamily Acontiinae.
