Castione-Arbedo railway station (Switzerland)

Castione-Arbedo is a railway station in the Swiss canton of Ticino and municipality of Arbedo-Castione. The station is on the Swiss Federal Railways Gotthard railway, between Biasca and Bellinzona, and on the Ferrovia Mesolcinese tourist railway.[1][2]

The station is served by trains on lines S10 and S20 of the Treni Regionali Ticino Lombardia (TILO). The S10 operates two trains per hour south to Bellinzona, Lugano and Chiasso, with one train an hour continuing north to Biasca and a few trains extending northwards to Airolo and southwards to Milan. The S20 operates two trains per hour south to Bellinzona and Locarno.[3]

From 1907, Castione-Arbedo station was the principal interchange point between the Gotthard railway and the Bellinzona–Mesocco railway (BM), a metre gauge railway linking Bellinzona and various communities in the Val Mesolcina as far as Mesocco. The line closed to passenger traffic in 1972, and to freight traffic in 2003, but the section north as far as Cama has since been resuscitated as the Ferrovia Mesolcinese tourist line.[1]
