Carol Brouillet (born August 28, 1957) is an American political activist and organizer, was a Green Party candidate for the United States House of Representatives in California's 14th congressional district before 2010's redrawing of the districts, and most recently ran for California's 18th congressional district. Carol is a leading activist in the 9/11 Truth Movement. In 2006 and 2008 she ran for the United States Congress as a Green on a 9/11 Truth, Peace, and Impeachment platform. She has co-founded several non-profit organizations that seek to connect people, vital ideas, and important information for the purpose of nurturing healthy social change, economic justice and ecological sustainability. These include the International Media Project, the Who's Counting Project, the 9/11 Truth Alliance, and the Northern California 9/11 Truth Alliance.

Background

Carol Liane Shepard was born August 28, 1957 in Santa Monica, California to Janet Edwina Zabel and Charles Baumert Shepard. She was raised in California. She attended Hawaii Loa College, Reed College, and the University of Grenoble. Beginning with a sailing trip around the world from 1976 to 1978, Carol continued to travel widely during the 1980s during which she read, wrote and collected experiences to help her fulfil an ambition of becoming an author. She eventually found herself organizing art exhibitions, notably of the artist, Huang Ge Sheng, whose work she discovered on a trip to China. In 1988 she met her husband Jean-Luc Brouillet and settled in Palo Alto, California. She and her husband have three sons.[citation needed]

Media Activism and Political Activism before September 11, 2001

In 1992, Carol saw the Oliver Stone film JFK and began researching the Central Intelligence Agency. She became a “media activist” to raise critical issues that she believed were censored or ignored by the corporate press. In 1993 she edited The Invisible Nuclear War- about the health effects of low-level radiation and nuclear issues.

Through the rest of the 1990s and up to September 2001, Carol became deeply involved in what is generally regarded as the anti-globalization movement. She protested against and helped inform others about the policies of the Free Trade Area of the Americas, the World Trade Organization, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and other institutions and facets of corporate globalization.

Carol co-sponsored the first local currency conference, the E.F. Schumacher Society Decentralist Conference, held in 1996 at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts. In 1997 she organized a panel and workshop on local currencies at The Other Economic Summit in Colorado . She has lectured and given workshops on Global Economics, Money, and Community Currencies in the U.S., Italy, and Brazil. Her paper “Reinventing Money, Restoring the Earth, Reweaving the Web of Life” was recognized by The Millennium Institute as “one of the best ideas for the new millennium.” She organized three conferences on “Strategies to Transform the Global Economy.” In January 2001, she helped mobilize North Americans to attend the first World Social Forum in Brazil.

Political activism since September 11, 2001

Carol Brouillet was deeply affected by the terrorism events that took place in the United States on September 11, 2001. She went to Washington, D.C. in September 2001 to protest an impending war, give flowers to Barbara Lee for her courageous stance, and to lobby against the PATRIOT Act. At the anti-war rallies, she came to believe that the war had little to do with fighting terrorism, but a lot to do with securing oil resources which led her to do research and begin local street actions. She was among the first to organize a public rally and march and to demand a Congressional investigation of 9/11.

From October 2001 to October 2007, Carol held a weekly two hour Listening Project- every Wednesday in downtown Palo Alto, California. Since then, she holds it on the 11th of every month, in solidarity with truthaction.org, and the global 9/11 Truth Movement.

She organized the first rally and march on Senator Dianne Feinstein’s office in San Francisco on January 8, 2002 to demand a Congressional inquiry of 9/11.

As a novel way of protesting and to building public awareness of the issues she is interested in, Carol publishes Deception Dollars and Conception Dollars which resemble U.S. currency. The Deception Dollars series includes a Media Bill, and several denominations of an Election Deception Dollar She also publishes a special Conception Dollar to promote healthy alternatives to the politicians and issues she protests with the Deception Dollars. Over seven million of her dollars are circulating and collected in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.

In 2003, Carol organized a sold-out presentation Premiere of Aftermath- Unanswered Questions from 9/11 at the Herbst Theatre in San Francisco and a well attended presentation, including Richard Heinberg, on Earth Day in Palo Alto at Spangenberg Theater.

In 2004, she organized two benefits for the San Francisco International Inquiry into 9/11: Behind Every Terrorist- There is a Bush, and the San Francisco International Inquiry into 9/11, Phase One. The Inquiry attracted many journalists, documentary film-makers, and helped spark the growing 9/11 Truth Movement. She also helped with, and spoke at the International Citizens’ Inquiry into 9/11, Phase Two, held in Toronto, Canada in May 2004.

When she discovered that Congresswoman Anna Eshoo was a co-sponsor of legislation which would reorganize and expand the United States' Intelligence Agencies, she organized a series of protests and rallies in August and September 2004, against what she calls "Police-State Legislation."

In 2005, Carol organized a series of local premiers of Barrie Zwicker’s documentary- The Great Conspiracy- The 9/11 News Special You Never Saw. The San Francisco Bay Guardian highlighted her in its cover story on the 9/11 Truth Movement.

Also in 2005, Carol organized an internet art contest with the theme 9/11 Truth for Peace and Justice. She also helped organize the First San Francisco International Inquiry into 9/11 and produced a film from it called Behind Every Terrorist- There is a Bush, which was featured on Free Speech TV.

In 2006 she ran for Congress in California's 14th congressional district (garnering 2.33% of the vote) while continuing to help organize more events drawing national attention to the existence of the 9/11 Truth Movement.

In 2007 she began hosting a weekly internet radio show "Questioning War- Organizing Resistance" on the We The People Radio Network, wtprn.com. On the program, she interviewed and conversed with thinkers, authors, and film makers on the topics of Impeachment, Peace, 9/11 Truth, the monetary system, electoral integrity, and state-sponsored terrorism.[1] The show ended in October, 2008 when WTPRN ceased its operations.

In January 2007 Carol was inspired by speeches given by Cynthia McKinney, Ralph Nader, and Cindy Sheehan in San Francisco which challenged citizens to run themselves against corporate-influenced politicians. Although plagued with questions about her health (which were afterwards resolved), Carol made the difficult decision to again run for Congress in 2008.

On the seventh anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Carol organized a 9/11 Truth Rally/March & a 9/11 Film Festival at the Grand Lake Theater in Oakland, California.

In 2008, Carol Brouillet ran again for Congress in California's 14th District. In campaign literature, Carol described herself as a Green Party candidate for Congress dedicated to Truth, Peace, Justice, and Ecological Wisdom. Carol also describes herself as interested in the impeachment of the Bush administration and the repeal of the Patriot Act and the Military Commissions Acts.

In October 2008, she published an article Evolution of the Apocalypse- Empire's Demise- Human Renaissance looking at the deep systemic problems with the global economy, the most recent speculative bubble which could crash the global economy. She produced a controversial 30 second TV ad noting that 9/11, WTC 7, the financial crash, the bailout, shared characteristics of controlled demolitions, criminal fraud and treason.
