Elation has been retrofitted with part of, but not all the Carnival "Evolutions of Fun" upgrades. The adults-only Serenity area has been installed, but not the WaterWorks water park. She also has only 28 balconies installed, all of these on the sixth deck.[citation needed]
History
Elation was the first cruise ship to be equipped with an Azipod propulsion system.[1] The pods give Elation better maneuverability compared with her sister ships.
On November 5, 2011 Carnival Elation was moved from Mobile, Alabama to New Orleans, replacing Carnival Ecstasy, which was moved to Port Canaveral, Florida.[2] With Elation relocated to New Orleans, Carnival ceased operations in Mobile, Alabama.[citation needed]
Although Carnival Elation did not receive the full "Evolutions of Fun" upgrade, she will receive the "Fun Ship 2.0" upgrades in 2014; her sister ship, Carnival Paradise, will receive the same upgrades in 2015.[3][4]
Current and former voyages
2007–2010: Three- , four- , and five-day cruises to Mexico from San Diego, CA as only year round ship from that port.
2010–2011: Four-, five-, and seven-day cruises from Mobile, Alabama to Western Caribbean replacing Carnival Fantasy.
2011–present: Four- and five-day cruises to Western Caribbean from New Orleans, Louisiana replacing Carnival Ecstasy.
Accidents and incidents
On February 16th, 2012, while docked in New Orleans, an oil tanker removing fuel from the ship malfunctioned and spilled oil on passengers' luggage, delaying its departure until early the next morning.[5]
On March 9th, 2013, Elation was followed into port by a tug after a steering malfunction during a cruise.[6]
