Carlos Vicente Tenorio Medina (born 14 May 1979) is an Ecuadorian footballer who plays for Brazilian club Vasco da Gama. Tenorio is an experienced striker known for his heading ability.

Club career

He began his career with LDU Quito. In Tenorio's early years. Then, he went to Al-Nasr where he was the top goalscorer with 15 goals in 16 matches, however, it is at Al Sadd where he has had more success, being the second highest goalscorer behind Gabriel Batistuta in 2004, winning the league title. He scored 10 goals in a Qatar Sheikh Jassem Cup game against Meather, a team of the league's second division, in which Al Saad won 21–0 on 26 August 2006.

In the 2006 transfer window, Tenorio was linked with a move to Italy's Siena and France's Lille. Though these two clubs offered decent money, the Asian club refused to sell him. Nonetheless, this showed how Carlos Tenorio has improved as a striker.

For a long time Tenorio has wanted a move away from the Qatar based club similarly with teammate Khalifa Ayil who was awarded a move to an Egyptian club after a number of English clubs had sniffed around the player.

In June 2009, it was confirmed that Tenorio would go to the United Arab Emirates to play with Al-Nasr Sports Club, for a lucrative deal. Since Guinean striker Ismaël Bangoura came, Tenorio and Bangoura have been forming the best forwards in the league so far. After a two-year spell with Al Nasr, he was transferred to Vasco da Gama on January 2012.

Playing ability

His tremendous speed has caused headaches for the defenders the world over. Carlos has the ability to ghost in areas rather quickly and this catches his adversaries off guard. He is also a very brave player who likes to challenge defenders with his pace and dribbling skills, and is a notable finisher with either foot and head.

International

In June 2006 Tenorio scored his first ever World Cup goal with the opener in Ecuador's 2–0 victory over Poland. He scored his second a week later, opening the score in Ecuador's 3–0 drubbing of Costa Rica. This put him in one of the top ten goalscorers in the tournament, as he was not only one of Ecuador's outstanding players in the FIFA World Cup, but was one of the tournament's most eye-catching performers with his powerful and breathtaking displays. Tenorio almost gave Ecuador ultimate glory after his shot hit the post against England in the FIFA World Cup 2006 with a deflection from Ashley Cole.

Now reaching his peak years, he will be called upon once again to fill the void left behind by the now retired legend, Agustin Delgado, upfront.

He has since scored many goals since Delgado's departure (TIHO). He scored one in a 4–2 friendly loss to Mexico national football team in San Francisco in 2007. He scored one goal against Sweden in a very unexpected 2–1 win by the Ecuadorians. He recently was given the No. 9 shirt for the World Cup Qualifiers. After Sixto Vizuete took charge of the national team, he has recently left him out of several call-ups. But he was once again chosen to play for Ecuador for the qualifiers against Peru & Argentina. He scored a goal in the 2–1 away victory in Lima.
