Carlo Tononi

Carlo Tononi (Bologna 1675 - Venezia 1730) was a famous Italian luthier who made violins, violas and cello's, however his finest work was illustrated through the rich a warm sound his violins produced. His instruments are regarded as being second to violins made by Antonio Stradivari and by Guaneri del Gesu.) Many famous musicians played on his instruments, such as Howard Davis (FRAM) and many others.He started to work in Venice in 1717 in the workshop of Matteo Sellas together with Pietro Guarneri.
