Carlo Yaír Costly Molina (born 18 July 1982[1]) is a Honduran footballer striker who plays for Real C.D. España in the Liga Nacional de Honduras. He is a member of the Honduras national football team. Prior to his transfer to Europe, he played with Club Deportivo Platense where he managed to be the top scorer of Honduras Apertura 2006–07. Costly is one of the favorite players among the Honduran fans because of his devoutness and sacrifice when playing for his national team.

Club career

Early career

Carlo Costly is the son of Anthony Costly. His life is linked closely to the country of Mexico. His parents separated and his mother, soon after, married a Mexican native. Costly moved to Mexico City when he was 14 years old and lived there for the following 11 years where he kicked off his soccer career. He had spells in the Mexican league with reserve teams of Atlético Celaya, Monarcas Morelia, Atlas and Pumas UNAM.[2]

He moved back to Honduras where the path to his internationally successful career began. Despite leaving Mexico, Costly still keeps a house in the state of Nayarit.[2]

He was linked in the press with a move to Football League Championship side Plymouth Argyle, and supposedly linked with League One side Leeds United, before being reported to be on trial with Premier League side Birmingham City.[3] Costly remained at PGE GKS Bełchatów for the time being.

Birmingham City

In January 2009, Costly joined Birmingham City of the Football League Championship (the second tier of English football) on loan until the end of the 2008–09 season.[4] He made his debut for the club on 7 February 2009, coming on as a second-half substitute in a 1–1 draw with Burnley.[5] The loan was not made permanent at the end of the season.[6]

SC Vaslui and Atlas

On 24 January 2010, Costly was bought by SC Vaslui signing a 3,5-years contract.[7] Carlo Costly is a very agile player that has his own move named "Costlynha". He was injured and treated in Italy where they told him he would recover before 2010 FIFA World Cup, but he was unable to rejoin the Honduras national football team due to FIFA rules. Currently he signed for Atlas club in Mexico, completely recovered.[8]

Houston Dynamo

The Houston Dynamo acquired Honduran international forward Carlo Costly on loan from Mexican Club Atlas de Guadalajara on 4 July 2011. Per team and Major League Soccer policy, terms of the transaction were not disclosed.[9] As of Friday, 8 August 2011, Costly's P-1 visa and international transfer certificate have been approved, making the forward available for selection for Saturday's match at the Philadelphia Union.[10]

Veria F.C.

In September 2012, Veria F.C. announced Carlos' Costly transfer.

Guizhou Zhicheng

Costly transferred to China League One side Guizhou Zhicheng on 24 July 2013.[11] On 4 August, he scored 2 goals in his debut against Yanbian Baekdu Tigers.[12]

Real C.D. España

Costly signed with Real España on 2 January 2014
