Carla Morrison

Carla Morrison (b. July 19, 1986 in Tecate, Baja California, Mexico) is a Mexican Alt-rock singer, songwriter and guitarist. Her label is Cosmic Records of Los Angeles, California.

Background

Born in Tecate, Baja California, Mexico, Carla Patricia Morrison Flores is a daughter of Mexican parents, Porfiria Flores and Hilario Morrison (born Viera). When Carla's dad was 13, he ran away from Durango and sought work in San Diego. A man named William Morrison adopted him and looked after him, giving him his surname Morrison. This is why her last name is Morrison, instead of Viera. ^[1] Since childhood Carla was attracted to the arts, in various media, such as drawing, poetry, writing stories, crafts, and dance styles such as African and jazz improvisation. But among all the arts, music symbolized her greatest passion. As a child she sang secretly, as she was shy. She didn't sing publicly until high school, when she started doing shows with friends.

Career

Freshman year of high school Carla moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she completed her studies and entered the Music College at the University of Arizona. After returning to Tecate, she played with local rock bands including Revolver and Zombras, learning to play different rhythms, such as batucada which includes the use of driving percussion instruments such as maracas, tambourines and drums.

Although the band is was in at the time signed with Sony BMG and booked a tour of Mexico, Carla instead decided to return to Phoenix and strengthen her abilities as an artist by resuming her musical studies at Mesa Community College, learning piano, guitar, vocal performance, song and folk music of the world.

In 2007 Carla gave her first solo performance in her hometown in the restaurant La Peña de Losa.. With musicians Nick Kizer and Nichole Petta she formed the alt-rock band Babaluca. Morrison's older sister Alex gave birth to her first child in the fall of 2006 and named him Luca. The band name was selected in honor of Morrison's nephew.In 2008 they recorded the self-titled debut EP and performed in Arizona and California, receiving a great deal of local press, including being named "Best Indie Band of Arizona for 2008."^{[citation needed]}

Carla also had the fortune to be already known on the Internet. Many music pages had much to say about her work. Her record was also added to a mix of music from a DJ Nacotheque of New York and she collaborated on remixes of her music with the band The Amparito of Guadalajara, Mexico.. .... Carla had the opportunity to play in several places in Tecate and ran voice (which was headlined by Javier Batiz in Tijuana (Forum and Multiculti and Cecut and Daniel Gutierrez Mofo opening for a singer of the renowned Mexican band The Gusana Blind) and CECUT being entitled "The most anticipated artist of Baja California, in San Luis Rio Colorado and Guadalajara, Mexico and published by the Journal of the Week "Leisure" an article entitled "Tecate with love ..." and in Mexicali which fortunately was opening for Natalia Lafourcade and shared the stage with other talented artists such as Four for Tango, Titán, and Mexicali ... there was when she began to know more and months later Natalia volunteered to help Carla to record and produce something, simply because she was a fan, and she agreed. Carla was in Mexico city for 2½ weeks over tour trips and had the opportunity to play in the fru fru Theatre, opening for the show's launch of disk huhuhu Natalia Lafourcade with an audience of 800, also to play an acoustic show with Daniel Gutierrez ah been his music played alternative music a lot more famous and known in Mexico City called Reactor 105.7 FM, and played at the international hostel where on this tour sold all his records he had in hand, as also in many radio stations throughout Mexico.

Now Carla in 2011 played in the tent intolerant in the largest Latin American festival Vive Latino breaking the record of. As well as achieving and playing Carla in the Lunario and sold out, which made Carla ah just to be on YouTube, MySpace, Facebook and such, which recognizes carla helped spread.

Carla Morrison's music videos have been recorded by Artileria de Tijuana as well as her documentary Colors Pains (Dolores a Colores).

In 2011, Carla Morrison partnered with Ibero-american Pop label HONEY BUNNY to release a 7-inch vinyl featuring the singles "Una Salida" and "Tu Luz".

She is now preparing her new LP.

Awards

Morrison also won the award for best folk album of 2010 in the award show IMAS 2011 (indie-o music awards). Natalia Lafourcade also won for best new producer of the album while you were sleeping (mientras tu dormias) and Carla was also nominated for best solo album of the year.

Morrison's music has been featured on the NPR program Alt.Latino and KCRW by posting her on their top 10 Mientras Tú Dormías best album of 2010 ^[2]

In the thirteenth installment of the Latin Grammy Awards, Carla Morrison won two gramophones for Best Alternative Song and Best Alternative Music Album, with their album and homonymous song "Dejenme Llorar"

Charity work

Morrison donated her song "Hoy yo quiero" to a Japanese record label to help raise money for the victims of the March 2011 Tsunami and Earthquake. With the same label Carla put out an LP record that fall 2011, putting together her 2 EPs and making a full length album with these two.
