Cardiff Deanery

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The new Cardiff Deanery will soon be made in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cardiff, overseeing several churches in the city of Cardiff. This will replace the previous Cardiff East Deanery and Cardiff West Deanery, combining the two into one. The dean will be Monsignor John Maguire, current dean of Cardiff West and parish priest at St Mary's Canton.

The churches in the deanery will only be churches in the city of Cardiff and not outside. The churches which do not fit into this new deanery will become part of adjoining deaneries.

Reorganisation

The parishes in the deanery have been split into 'clusters'. These churches are not being merged but will be working together to make sure that all parishioners in the cluster are served sufficiently. As part of the archdiocese reorganisations, the churches of St Cuthbert, Docks and Sacred Heart, Leckwith will soon be closed. To cater for the parishioners, St Cuthbert's will be merged with St Patrick's and Sacred Heart with St Mary's.
