Cantonment (Bengali: ক্যান্টনমেন্ট), popularly called Dhaka Cantonment, is a Thana of Dhaka district in the Division of Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is the seat of the Army Headquarters, Naval Headquarters and the Air Force Headquarters, as well as other important military establishments.

Authorisation is required to enter the cantonment, with gates on the roads at most entries. Due to this, the cantonment is one of the quietest places in Dhaka, with little traffic or commotion.

Geography

Cantonment is located at 23°49′20″N 90°24′30″E / 23.8222°N 90.4083°E / 23.8222; 90.4083 . It has 36540 units of house hold and total area 29.94 km².

Demographics

As of 1991 Bangladesh census, Cantonment has a population of 117,464.[1] Males constitute 55.53% of the population, and females 44.47%. This Upazila's eighteen up population is 109817. Cantonment has an average literacy rate of 68% (7+ years), and the national average of 32.4% literate.[2]
