Calvin Byron Stadium (formerly known as El Empalme) is a 2,500 to 3,000 seats baseball field in El Empalme, Changuinola. Its home of Tortugueros (Turtle Men) of Bocas del Toro.
History
Original stadium name was "El Empalme", since local baseball player-trainer Calvin Byron, had an heart attack in the field, sports authorities changed name to Calvin Byron Stadium around 1995.
Also former Anaprof soccer founder team Chirilanco FC played games in the 80s.
There is a small movement to restore stadium's name to original name El Empalme, since Calvin Byron as person didn't express affection for Bocas del Toro Province, and showed interest returning to Nicaragua, creating a curse for the team and stadium.[1]
Features
Stadium was completely remodeled in 2009, and has light towers for night playing.
Government donated a new electronic scoreboard in 2012.[2]
