California's 8th State Senate district is one of 40 California State Senate districts. It is currently represented by Democratic Leland Yee of San Francisco.

District profile

The district covered almost half of San Francisco and all but southeastern San Mateo County. Communities in the San Mateo portion of the district included Belmont, Brisbane, Broadmoor, Burlingame, Colma, Daly City, El Granada, Foster City, Half Moon Bay, Highlands-Baywood Park, Hillsborough, Millbrae, Montara, Moss Beach, Pacifica, Portola Valley, San Bruno, San Mateo, South San Francisco, and Woodside.

2011 redistricting

After redistricting in 2011 by the California Citizens Redistricting Commission, the district now includes all of Amador, Calaveras, Inyo, Mariposa, Mono, and Tuolumne counties, 55.9% of Fresno County, 18.9% of Madera County, 3.0% of Sacramento County, 28.2% of Stanislaus County, and 0.9% of Tulare County. Cities in the district include Fresno, Rancho Cordova, and Turlock.

This district comes into effect after the 2014 elections.
