CIUP-FM is a Canadian radio station, broadcasting at 99.3 FM in Edmonton, Alberta. The station, which uses the brand name up! 99.3, broadcasts an Adult Hits music format. This station is owned by Rawlco Communications and received approval by the CRTC in July 2005 [1] and was launched in September 2005 for testing, and officially debuted December 8, 2005 at 2 PM as CHMC-FM with a smooth jazz format branded as "Magic 99". Magic's first song was Michael Bublé's Sway.
On Tuesday, October 19, 2010, the station dropped its five-year-old smooth jazz format, in favor of its current adult hits format as up! 99.3, and adopted its current callsign. This leaves Rogers Radio's CHDI-FM in terms of Edmonton radio stations launched during the year 2005 to not change formats. up!'s first song was "Don't Stop" by Fleetwood Mac. The launch was simulcast on Global TV Edmonton.
Rawlco, however, describes CIUP-FM as a classic hits station, but remains an adult hits station because of fewer currents/recurrents at the station alongside 1990s & 2000s songs there. There are also classic rock songs on the station's playlist as well, but CIUP-FM is described softer than rival CKNG-FM.
On August 17, 2011, Rawlco Radio received CRTC approval to change the technical parameters of the station by increasing the effective height of antenna above average terrain from 148.4 to 272 meters and by relocating its transmitter.[2]
CIUP is currently ranked #8 in the Edmonton market according to the Fall 2011 PPM data report released by BBM Canada.[3]
