CHYQ-FM is a new radio station that will offer a French-language adult pop music format on a frequency of 97.1 MHz (FM) in West Nipissing, Ontario, Canada, serving the Sturgeon Falls-North Bay area. Owned by Le5 Communications, the station received CRTC approval on January 6, 2011.[1]

This station will air a similar format to Le5's CHYC-FM in Sudbury and CHYK-FM in Timmins. It was the first commercial French-language radio station licensed in Ontario since the launch of CHYC-FM's original AM incarnation, CFBR, in 1957; apart from the three Le5 stations, all other French radio stations in Ontario are non-commercial outlets owned by non-profit community radio groups or Radio-Canada.

The station originally had until January 6, 2013, two years after its license was first awarded, to commence broadcasting. However, Le 5 has since requested, and received, and extension that gives the broadcaster until January 6, 2014 to begin broadcasting. [2]

The launch date for the new radio station has yet to be announced.[3]

On December 3rd 2013 the station began on air testing lasting until February 5th 2014

The station officially launched at 7am on February 6th 2014
