Buriram United (Thai: สโมสรฟุตบอลบุรีรัมย์ ยูไนเต็ด), formerly PEA Football Club, is a professional Thai football club based in Buriram province. The club has played at the top level of Thai football for the majority of their existence and is currently competing in the Thai Premier League. The club was founded in 1970 and their current home stadium is New i-mobile Stadium which has a capacity of 33,000.

Buriram United won their first Thai Premier League title in 2008 and the Kor Royal Cup in 1998, as PEA FC (Provincial Electricity Authority Football Club). The club was previously based in Ayutthaya before moving east to Buriram for the 2010 season. In season 2011, Buriram PEA were the triple champions winning the (2011 Thai Premier League, 2011 Thai FA Cup, and 2011 Thai League Cup) in Thailand.

History

Early Years

The club was founded in 1970. But first successes came in 1998 with a winning the third division of the Kor Royal Cup. The club was then the Thai Division 1 League. 2002/03 the club finished third in the second division. In the Thai Premier League Relegation to be lost at the end of the Thailand Tobacco Monopoly FC after round match with 0-1. A year later, with space, then succeeded in the end of season 2003/04 promotion to the Thai Premier League. The club had in the past no fixed home stadium and due to the changing locations also not a big fan base. However, this could be built with moving to Ayutthaya gradually. The inhabitants of the city took the club more and more as their own was. This was especially clear to remember the 2008 season when the audience rose. First major successes

2009 Season

Before the start of the 2009 season, there was disagreement between the fans and their club. First was in the room, the club would change its name to Ayutthaya F.C.. Winning the championship eligible to participate in the club qualifying for the AFC Champions League. This was probably ultimately the reason why the club is not renamed to Ayutthaya F.C.. To qualify for the 2009 AFC Champions League, the PEA met the Singapore Armed Forces FC. In just one game, it went to a place in the next qualifying round of the competition. Buriram and Newin Chidchob

2010-2011 Season

In December 2009 it was announced that the politicians based in Buriram Newin Chidchob will take over the club. Previously, he had already tried unsuccessfully to take over the clubs TOT S.C. and Royal Thai Army F.C.. Newin moved the club to Buriram and gave him the name Buriram PEA Football Club. Ekwalla Herman and Florent Obama became Buriram's hard rock defense, while Frank Ohandza and Frank Acheampong became Buriram's attacking force. The African players combined with Thai players like Suchao Nuchnum, Rangsan Viwatchaichok, Jakkraphan Kaewprom, Theeraton Bunmathan, Sivaruck Tedsungnoen made Buriram an unstoppable team. With only one defeat, they were crowned champions before the end of the season. The 2011 season Buriram was completed with a treble; the Thai Premier League, Thai League Cup, and Thai FA Cup. Frank Ohandza was the league's top scorer scoring 19 goals with two hatricks. By winning the league Buriram gained entry to the 2012 AFC Champions League group stage.

2012 Season

After winning the 2011 Thai League Cup they competed against Vegalta Sendai for the 2012 Toyota Premier Cup at Supachalasai Stadium during their pre-season. Buriram went on to win the penalty shootout 5-3, after they tied with Vegalta Sendai 1-1. Therefore they won the 2012 Toyota Premier Cup

At the start of the 2012 season, the club was renamed in Buriram United Football Club. In the group stage of the 2012 AFC Champions League, the first match official club, Buriram beat the 2011 J-league champion, Kashiwa Reysol, 3-2 and became "the first Thai and South East Asian club" which gained the victory against a J-league club in ACL since starting the Champions League system in 2003. On the second match, Buriram was the visiting team against the 2011 CSL Champion, Guangzhou Evergrande F.C.. Buriram also became "the first Thai and South East Asian club" which gain a victory against a Chinese club "in China" after beating Guangzhou 1-2 in Tianhe Stadium from Suchao Nuchnum and Frank Acheampong's goals. That match was the end of the unbeatable streak of Guangzhou at home after 2 years.[3] However, Buriram received 4 straight lost in the matches against the 2011 K-league Champion, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors for both home and away, Kashiwa Reysol and Guangzhou Evergrande F.C. in two next match with Be eliminated.

During the half season, Buriram signed contracts with Anthony Ampaipitakwong Thai-American player from San Jose Earthquakes, Goran Jerković, French Player from Esteghlal F.C., Osmar Barba Spanish player from Racing de Santander to help the team to win the two remaining trophies,Thai FA Cup and Thai League Cup. They eventually won Thai FA Cup and qualified to the 2013 ACL play-off round. At the end of the season, Buriram also retained the Thai League Cup. The 2012 season ended as the club finished fourth.

2013 Season

In Pre-Season Buriram signed Mikel Touzon as their goalkeeping coach. Due to their friendly matches performance, Buriram had terminated contracts of Igor Burzanovic, Lee Sang-Min, Ariel Santana and César Elizondo. On the first leg of the season, Buriram eventually loaned Ramses Bustos, Chilean Player from Unión Española and Chitchanok Xaysensourinthone, Swiss-born Thai-Lao Player from Yverdon-Sport FC. They also signed contracts with Carmelo González Spanish player from Sporting de Gijón, Juan Quero Spanish player from Rayo Vallecano, Javier Patiño Filipino-Spanish player from Córdoba CF, Kai Hirano Japanese Player from Kataller Toyama, Han Jae-Woong South-Korean player from Incheon United FC, Charyl Chappuis Thai-Swiss player, and Dennis Buschening Thai-German player. They terminated Ramses Bustos's contract due to his discipline.

On 1 May 2013, Buriram United became the first Thai team in a decade to reach the knockout rounds of the AFC Champions League as a dramatic 2-2 draw with FC Seoul in the Round of 16 and change Coach Scott Cooper. They also continued their way through the quarter-final round of AFC Champions League 2013 with the 2-1 aggregated goals win over against the Uzbek giant, Bunyodkor, in two legs.

New I-Mobile Stadium

The New I-Mobile Stadium in Buriram became the home stadium of Buriram PEA as of 11 June 2011, replacing the old stadium also named i-Mobile Stadium. The new stadium was constructed at a cost of approximately 550 million baht, and the stadium has a seating capacity of 33,000. The new stadium is also called Thunder Castle Stadium. The New i-Mobile Stadium is located about 3 kilometers southwest of central Buriram.

The structure consists of iron and fiber. It was created with a budget of over 500 million baht by the financial support of steam – Mobile and some of the names, look like, and a field goal at the first and only one in Thailand with no track between the pitch and the FIFA standard., AFC and AFC's and also through a standard class stadium of AFC.
