Burim Kukeli (born 16 January 1984)[1] is a professional Albanian footballer currently playing as a midfielder for FC Zurich in the Swiss Super League and for the Albania national football team.
Career
Kukeli was born in Đakovica (Gjakove in Albanian), SAP Kosovo, SR Serbia, SFR Yugoslavia, but moved to Switzerland along with his family at the age of four.[2]
FC Zurich
In April 2012 it was announced that Kukeli had agreed to join his former FCL coach Rolf Fringer at FC Zurich in the summer.[3]
Long time injury
He suffered a long-time injury (Fractured Leg) who keeped it a year out of playing, from February 2013 until January 2014.[4]
First match after the recovery from long-time injury came on 14 January 2014, in a friendly match against MSV Duisburg.[5]
International career
Kukeli received a call from Albania's coach, Gianni de Biasi in May 2012 for the friendlies against Qatar and Iran, but he declined, because he was too tired at that time and needed rest after the end of the season, however he said that he would respond positively in the future.[6] In August 24, 2012 it was reported that the Albanian government had started the procedures to give him an Albanian citizenship by the end of August 2012, so that he could play for Albania in the qualifiers of the FIFA World Cup 2014.[7] Kukeli debutted in a 3-1 victory against Cyprus on September 7, 2012 by playing 90 minutes.[8]
