That was the last occupation in history which affect our daily life. It last from 1526 to 1699. The Great Plain depopulated during this period. After the emancipation the people started to move to the depopulated areas. The agricultural workers moving into the countryside starting with founding a tanya. A tanya is economic unit with field, meadow, cattle, swine, pigs, horses etc. in it. The traditional difference between the farm and the tanya is the thing that the people who lives in the tanya always has a house in the city too, where they spend them time during the winter. So, the Hungarian farmers not just farmers, they are citizens too, just only in the winter time. By globalization and specialization the tanya is disappearing from the Hungarian Great Plain.
