The Buenos Aires tetra (Hyphessobrycon anisitsi) is a tropical fish from South America. It swims in shoals.
Description
An aquarium subject for over 60 years, the Buenos Aires tetra is a metallic-coloured fish, with red-tipped fins and a black marking on the dorsal fin. It is also a large tetra, growing to 7 cm.
Care
The Buenos Aires tetra is an undemanding and inexpensive fish. However it is best kept away from delicate and shy species, because it is a fin nipper. It also has a tendency to eat aquarium plants. This fish has a similar diet to most tetras. It accepts flake and dried foods, as well as vegetable matter. This fish requires more food than most small aquarium fish. They are adapted to temperatures of 62–83 °F (17–28 °C). The Buenos Aires tetra will tolerate a pH of 5.5–8.5.
