Brtonigla (Italian: Verteneglio) is a village and municipality in the north-western part of Istria, Croatia, 6 kilometres (4 miles) southwest of Buje; elevation 141 m. It is close to the A9 motorway. Chief occupations include farming, viniculture and vegetable growing.
A Roman settlement called Ortus Niger was close to this location. The place was first mentioned in writing in 1102.[2] The neo-Baroque church of St. Zeno from 1861 was built on the site of an older church from 1480. The preserved structures from the time of the older church are the 36 m high bell tower, the bells (from 1512), the Baroque baptismal font from the 17th century and, located in the chapel of All Saints, a stone altar with a wooden retable and the sculptures of the Holy Virgin and saints.
