It has been adapted into two PlayStation Portable video games by Idea Factory, a yonkoma manga series and an anime television series.[1][2] The 12-episode anime aired between July and September 2013 and is animated by Brain's Base. Funimation has acquired the North American streaming rights for the anime.[3]
Plot
Ema Hinata is the daughter of the famous adventurer Rintarō Hinata. One day, Ema finds out that her dad is going to remarry with a successful apparel maker named Miwa Asahina. Rather than bothering them, she decides to move in to the Sunrise Residence complex that is owned by Miwa. From there, she discovers that she has 13 step-brothers.
Main characters
- Ema Asahina (Hinata) (朝日奈 絵麻)[4]
- Voiced by: Rina Satō (anime only)
- The teenage daughter of the well-known adventurer Rintarou Asahina. She is 16 years old and in her second year of high school. After her father remarries, she moves in with her new step-brothers. She is very good at cooking. Her father's job had always left Ema feeling alone, but now with her new family she feels happy and safe. She has a talking pet squirrel named Juli who is always saying that her new family is a pack of wolves and that she must always be well aware of her surroundings. Juli can only communicate with Ema and (as it is later discovered) Louis, and both Juli and Louis call Ema "Chi". It is later revealed that she is adopted (her real parents had died). This revelation causes a problem for her at first because her so-called father had been keeping it from her for so many years. However, Louis helps her through this with his own experience, and Juli also reassures her of her father's love.
- Masaomi Asahina (朝日奈 雅臣)[4]
- Voiced by: Kazuyuki Okitsu
- The oldest son of the Asahina family with the age of 31. He is a doctor who is well versed in medicine. However, he is not as competent as he seems, as he faints at the sight of blood. He loves children and shares a special bond with the youngest brother, Wataru.
- Ukyo Asahina (朝日奈 右京)[4]
- Voiced by: Daisuke Hirakawa
- Second son of the Asahina family aged 29. He is a successful lawyer and acts as the mother figure to the household. He cooks, cleans and helps the others study for school. He has a calm and reliable personality but can also be very talkative.

- Third son of the Asahina family aged 26. He has the charms of a playboy and a womanizing nature, but he is actually a monk.
- Hikaru Asahina (朝日奈 光)[4]
- Voiced by: Nobuhiko Okamoto
- Fourth son of the Asahina family aged 25. He is a cross-dressing novelist who likes watching his older brothers reactions around Ema. Hikaru seems to know almost everyone of his brothers that they have feelings toward Ema, even making a chart called "Brothers Conflict" as his hobby.
- Tsubaki Asahina (朝日奈 椿)[4]
- Voiced by: Kenichi Suzumura

- Voiced by: Kousuke Toriumi
- The sixth son and one of the triplets aged 24. Like his identical triplet brother Tsubaki, he is also a voice actor. However, he is calmer and less tenacious than Tsubaki and is usually the one to keep Tsubaki in check. It is showed in the 8th episode that he has feeling for Ema.
- Natsume Asahina (朝日奈棗)[4]
- Voiced by: Tomoaki Maeno
- The seventh son and one of the triplets also aged of 24. Unlike Azusa and Tsubaki, he is a fraternal triplet. He is the CEO of a game company that makes one of Ema's favorite games, "Zombie Hazard". Unlike the rest of the brothers, he lives alone. He has a blunt way of talking but is very good at looking after others. It is revealed in episode 9 that he has feelings for Ema.
- Louis Asahina (朝日奈 琉生)[4]
- Voiced by: Ken Takeuchi
- The eighth son of the Asahina family with the age of 21. He works as a hairdresser. He is a beautiful and mysterious man, always looking up at the clouds. He is the only other person beside Ema who can communicate with Juli and promises him that they will protect Ema. It is later revealed in the game and anime that he is adopted, and he is the one who helps Ema after she finds out she is adopted as well.
- Subaru Asahina (朝日奈 昴)[4]
- Voiced by: Daisuke Ono
- The ninth son of the Asahina family who just turns 20 in episode 2. He is a college sophomore and is very athletic, being on the basketball team. He has no knowledge about girls, so he doesn't know how to deal with them. As a result, he gets tense when around Ema. He asks Ema out in episode 5.

- Voiced by: KENN
- The twelfth son of the Asahina Family aged 15. He is in the 9th grade and is a very popular idol. He has a devilish and cheeky personality. However, he can be very mature for his age. He loves to tease Ema about being his "beautiful idiot sister". He later has romantic feelings toward Ema.
- Wataru Asahina (朝日奈 弥)[4]
- Voiced by: Yūki Kaji
- The thirteenth and youngest son of the Asahina family with the age of 10. He is a ten-year old in the 5th grade. He is sweet and honest, but very spoiled. His sometimes spoiled behavior may be due to the over-protection of his older brothers.
Other characters
- Juli (ジュリ)[4]
- Voiced by: Hiroshi Kamiya
- Ema's pet squirrel who has the ability to talk. However, he can only talk to Ema and Louis. He has been with Ema since she was young, always looking out for her and making sure none of the brothers (or "wolves", as he considers them) make a pass at her. He always calls Ema "Chi". Later in the anime, he appears to Ema in a dream as a handsome man in a suit and tells her about her adoption. He has a deeper voice in this form, and while in it he tells Ema that he loves her. Later in the anime, Ema begins to forget about Juli, including forgot to bring him with her on a trip.

1 | "The First Conflict: Brothers" "Dai ichi shōtotsu: Kyōdai" (第一衝突: 兄弟) | July 2, 2013 |
After her father becomes engaged, Ema and her pet squirrel, Juli, have to move in with her thirteen new stepbrothers. She arrives and is met at the door by the eldest son, Masaomi, and the youngest son, Wataru. Upon arriving in the living room, she is embraced by Tsubaki (the fifth son), who is then promptly smacked in the head by his identical twin, Azusa–– the sixth son. Ukyo, a lawyer and the second son, introduces himself while bringing in tea. Ema also discovers that one of her own classmates, Yusuke, is one of her new brothers. Subaru and Kaname (the ninth and third sons, respectively) also walk into the living room and introduce themselves. Ema is then surprised to learn that the super popular singing idol, Futo, is also one of the thirteen; unfortunately, he is currently on tour in Hokkaido and she is unable to meet him until later. As they talk in the living room, an exhausted Ema becomes dizzy from a fever and goes to her room to rest. Louis, the eighth son, arrives home from work and go to say hello to her before joining the other brothers in preparing for dinner. Later in the evening, Ema runs into Kaname as he passes by her room. He kisses her on the cheek, to which she responds by asking him to stop teasing her, because she "knows" that he is a kind person. After Kaname leaves, Ema decides to go take a shower and accidentally bumps into Subaru, who only has a towel around his waist. Embarrassed, she runs into the living room where the twins, Tsubaki and Azusu, are apparently confessing their love to each other. Ema runs away when Azusa tells her that he did indeed confess to Tsubaki, only to laugh at her, explaining that the two of them are voice actors and that they are only rehearsing from a script. Ema eventually arrives back in her room and lays in her bed, wondering what new adventure she had just gotten herself into. After the ending song, Yusuke is seen lying in his bed, asking himself, "Ah, why? Why does she need to be the one that is my sibling?"
2 | "The Second Conflict: Confusion" "Dai ni shōtotsu: Konran" (第二衝突: 混乱) | July 9, 2013 |
It's a new day for Ema, and she helps Ukyo make breakfast for the brothers. She later on heads for school with Yusuke. In class, Yusuke–– who has apparently been crushing on his new step-sister long before she became his sibling–– is seen staring at Ema. Back home, Ema meets Futo, who calls her his "stupid, beautiful sister." She also greets Ukyo, who then asks her to make a birthday cake for Subaru. She comes back from the market to find Louis, who had fallen asleep across a couch on the landing above their living room. He wakes and then almost immediately insists for her to let him do her hair. While Louis is styling her hair, he finds that the curling iron is broken and rushes off to find a new one. Futo walks in, demanding to know where Louis is, and, finding he isn't at the house, storms out of the house. Once Louis is finished with Ema's hair, she bakes and decorate's Subaru's birthday cake. The brothers, including a blushing Subaru, are presented the beautiful, fruit encrusted confection. Later on, Ema decides to go to the living room, where Tsubaki is teasing Subaru about liking Ema in a non-sibling way. Embarrassed and (quite) drunk, Subaru says mean things and later realizes that Ema had heard all of it. He goes to apologize, but ends up kissing Ema, then passing out on top of her. The "valiant" twins arrive on the scene and haul Subaru off of Ema. When they question her about what had happened, she protects Subaru by insisting that it was a complete accident. The following day, Ema visits a media store and sees Futo. She loudly calls out his name, which promptly blows his "cover." He shoves his CD's into her hands and commands Ema to rent them for him before rushing off. At home, she gives the CD's to Futo and he whispers suggestively that he will give her a "punishment" in her room. After the ending song, the twins receive a message from one of the (as of yet) unmet brothers, saying that he will be coming back home.
