Brondesbury College for Boys is a selective independent school for boys situated in Brent, London, England. It was founded by Dr Yusuf Islam in 1997 to provide an education institution for young Muslim students in the United Kingdom. Since its foundation the school has had a second building extension, an AstroTurf football pitch, facilities in the fields of science, sports, teaching assistance, and a library. About 125 students enroll every year. The school had GCSE grades (100% 5 A*-C, 2009).[citation needed]
Admissions
Entry to the school is by academic selection through the use of entrance exams with scholarships up for contention. These exams are held in November with results given out in January. The interview procedure then follows with school offers being posted to the best students throughout the spring season.
Facilities
The College comprises two buildings and various annexes to teach the National Curriculum up to GCSE.· In the main College building, a mosque and assembly hall augments the original classic Georgian building.· The second building includes two laboratories, an art and design lab, three classrooms, and a dining hall serving halal food. The main building houses two classrooms, a small library and Information Technology Centre.· The nearby Islamia School Centre provides the College with large gymnasium facilities, and sports are held at Aylestone playing fields.· Class sizes are kept to a maximum of twenty-five. For certain subjects, when appropriate, class numbers may be considerably smaller. [citation needed]
History
Brondesbury College is an Independent Secondary School for boys aged between 11 and 16 in the Queen’s Park area.
The main building was originally a residential house when it was first purchased. This building was used to set up Islamia Primary School, which began as a kindergarten with around 13 children in 1983. Islamia Primary school then relocated to larger premises, a former grammar school on Salusbury Road. In 1996, Brondesbury College was formed on this site. The College is managed by Islamia Schools Limited, a registered UK Charity and endowment.
