The Brisbane Hebrew Congregation, a modern Orthodox shul affiliated with the Chabad movement,[1] is the largest Jewish organisation in Queensland & its synagogue, the Brisbane Synagogue on Margaret Street is the oldest in the state. The Congregation was formed in 1885 and the synagogue was founded in 1886.[2] Unlike other synagogues in Australia at the time, the synagogue has always operated primarily in English.[3]
