Brett Ferres (born 17 April 1986 in Castleford, England) is a professional rugby league footballer for the Huddersfield Giants of Super League. An England national representative second-roiw forward, he previously played for the Bradford Bulls, Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and Castleford Tigers.[2]
Playing career
2000s
Ferres was a member of the England Academy side that toured Australia and New Zealand in 2004. In 2005 he made 9 first team appearances and was the regular goal kicker for the Senior Academy, a side he also captained, scoring 17 tries in only 17 appearances for the under-21s.[3] As Super League champions Bradford faced National Rugby League premiers Wests Tigers in the 2006 World Club Challenge. Ferres played from the interchange bench in the Bulls' 30-10 victory. Brett Ferres won caps for England while at Bradford Bulls in 2006 against France, Tonga (2 matches), and Samoa.[4]
Called up to the England Squad for Autumn matches against France, Samoa and Tonga in the 2006 Federation Shield tournament.[5][6][7][8] Ferres signed for Wakefield Trinity Wildcats in exchange for David Solomona who went to Bradford Bulls.[9]
Ferres signed for Castleford Tigers on 7 November 2008 after being released from his contract with Wakefield.[10]
On 2 July 2009 Ferres signed a new 3-year deal to stay at Castleford.[11]
2010s
In July 2012, Ferres signed for Huddersfield Giants for a three-and-a-half-year deal.[12]
Made his full England debut against the Exiles in June 2013 at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
He was named at second-row in the 2013 Super League Dream Team.
In 2013, Brett was named in the England national rugby league team for the 2013 Rugby League World Cup. Initially, Brett wasn't selected, but due to Gareth Hock's breach of team policy, Brett earnt a call-up. He featured in every game England played. Critics say Brett was one of England's stand-out players in the Tournament.
