Brent Trevor Todd[1] (born 5 December 1964) is a
New Zealand former
rugby league footballer. Todd represented his country and played at prop forward.
Early years
Todd is a dual international, having represented his country in water polo while in New Zealand.[2] Todd was one of Canberras favourite sons during their Green Machine era of the late 80s and early 90s. His excellent hands and strong running game earned the raiders masses of meters, during a period when the two lines were only 5 meters apart.
He made the Junior Kiwis in 1982 and 1983.[3]
Playing career
Originally from the Linwood club in the Canterbury Rugby League competition and a Canterbury representative, Todd joined the Canberra Raiders in 1986 when they paid a $37,200 transfer fee.[4] Todd played 28 tests for the Kiwis between 1985 and 1993. Todd also played at prop forward for the Canberra Raiders in the Winfield Cup Grand Finals of 1987, 1989, 1990 and 1991. After suffering a broken arm in 1988, he spent the off-season with Wakefield Trinity, playing nine games. He later played for the Gold Coast club before retiring from the New South Wales Rugby League premiership in 1993.
Personal life
Todd married former World Surfing Champion Wendy Botha. In 1994, Todd's biography, League, Lies & Alibis was published. His fame has since increased in New Zealand through appearances on reality TV.
In December 2007 Todd was sentenced to 12 months home detention for his role in a poker machine fraud scheme.[5][6]
