Breidis Prescott

Breidis Enrique Prescott Consuegra (born 3 May 1983 in Barranquilla, Colombia) is a Colombian lightweight boxer. He has a reputation as a devastating puncher, with 20 of his 26 wins by way of knockout, with all coming in the first three rounds.

Amateur career

During his amateur career, Prescott fought in the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, where he lost in the first round (on points) to Lucas Matthysse. He later called it a fluke and said that Matthysse hit like a baby rabbit. He would go on to avenge that loss in another fight between the 2 competitors when he defeated Matthysse by decision (15-13).

Professional career

Prescott faced favored British prospect, Amir Khan on 6 September 2008, at the M.E.N. Arena, Manchester for the WBO Inter-Continental lightweight title. He defeated Amir Khan after 54 seconds of the first round, handing Khan his first defeat since turning professional.^[1]

On 17 July 2009, he suffered his first defeat to Mexican Boxer Miguel Vazquez by a split decision with the score cards reading 95-94, 92-97, 96-93 for Vazquez, with most observers having Vazquez winning by a larger margin.^[2]

On 5 December 2009, Prescott lost to Kevin Mitchell by unanimous decision.

After two close decision losses in 2009, Prescott made a good turn around in 2010 with a KO win over Jason Davis and a Decision over Harrison Cuello. He won his first fight of 2011 against Bayan Jargal.

He lost his fight against Paul McCloskey in a world title eliminator on 10 September 2011 in a unanimous decision. The result proved controversial however, as many observers felt the decision should have gone Prescott's way instead the decision went Paul McCloskey 's way. During the fight Prescott dominated the early rounds scoring a knock down in the first round, however, replays showed that Prescott's forearm brushed against McCloskeys head leading to McCloskey losing his balance. Although McCloskey suffered from a bloodied nose early on he fought back in the later rounds and gained the victory.

Prescott fought Mike Alvarado on 12 November 2011, in Las Vegas, USA, on the undercard of Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez III. Prescott started out the fight fast, and was able to out-box Alvarado for the first five rounds successfully, building a lead on the scorecards. In the middle and late rounds, Alvarado became the main aggressor, and cut the distance, effectively trading shots with Prescott on the inside, and winning the middle and late rounds. By the 10th round, Prescott seemed out of gas, and Alvarado took advantage launching a large offensive attack in the opening minute of the round. Then, with 1:43 left in the fight, Alvarado knocked Prescott down with left and right uppercuts. Prescott was able to get up, but Alvarado came back with two hard rights sending Prescott to the ropes, and then landed three straight right uppercuts. Prescott was leaning forward, hanging onto Alvarado and not returning fire, prompting the referee to stop the fight with 1:07 left in the bout. Alvarado was down 87-84, 87-84, and 86-85 at the time of stoppage, in what was a close fight.
