Braxston Cave (born July 29, 1989) is an American football offensive center for the New England Patriots of the National Football League (NFL). Cave played college football at Notre Dame. Though considered a top prospect at his position in the 2013 NFL Draft,[1] Cave was not drafted.

High school career

Cave attended Penn High School in Mishawaka, Indiana. He helped guide the Kingsmen to an undefeated regular season in his senior season and final 12-1 record. He also participated in track where he threw the shot put over 51 feet and tossed discus 145 feet. Rated as a four-star recruit by Rivals.com, he was rated as the No.4 center in the nation.[2] He accepted a scholarship offer from Notre Dame over offers from Indiana and Michigan.

College career

After redshirting, then playing sparingly the following year, he became a full-time starter in 2010. He would go on to play in 48 games, starting 35 of them. He was named a third team All American by the Associated Press during his final year in 2012.[3]

Cave went undrafted in the 2013 NFL Draft and, as required by the NFL's Collective Bargaining Agreement, signed a three-year deal with the Cleveland Browns hours after the draft. On August 30, 2013, he was waived by the Browns, and was claimed off waivers by the New England Patriots.
