The Cadbury Bournvita Quiz Contest is an Indian quiz contest that began on April 12, 1972. Sponsored by Cadbury India, it is one of India's most famous quiz contests. Originally held live in cities across the country, it later became a radio show and then, in June 1992, a television show on Zee TV. Later, the show was shifted to another television channel, Sony Entertainment Television. Currently, the show is telecast on the television channel Colors. The show is hosted by Derek O'Brien. The original quizmaster on the radio show was Hamid Sayani, a prominent Indian broadcast personality.[1] After the first four years, Hamid died and the show was taken over by his brother Ameen Sayani.[2]

According to the show's organizers, they are looking for children with proven talents who have been rewarded by their school. The children who take part must be able to present themselves clearly in Hindi or English. Also, participants should be able to balance their academics with their extracurricular activities. Each team consists of students from a given school.

The Bournvita Confidence Champion was organised in 2006 and the winner was Palak Muchhal (a singer) from Queens, Indore.The winner of Confidence Championship 2007 was a boy from Ajmer who won a trip to Europe while the runner up was Ritam from Kolkata.

Return on television

The show made a return to television in 2011 on Colors TV. Bournvita Quiz Contest was pulled off air in 2007.[3] The winner of this quiz was Rushikesh Thawale.This was after fans launched a campaign on popular social networking site Facebook to bring the show back, devoting a page to the cause and calling it 'Bring BQC Back'. The show now returned with a difference. Earlier the show was completely in English. Now Hindi was also introduced. Saumya Tandon became the co quiz master, assisting Derek.

Format

Each episode of the show has two rounds. The first round is 'Innings'. In this round each team is asked five questions. Each question has four options and carries 100 marks. The second round known as 'Super over' consists of 6 questions and the teams get 10 seconds to answer each question.

In 2012 the show was aired on Colors TV. Anusha Malhotra and Nitya Bansal from Birla Vidya Niketan Delhi won the contest. It is India's long running quiz contest.

Second screen concept in 2013

In 2013, Bournvita Quiz Contest,viewers get a chance to participate in the show, live! The first-of-its-kind 'second screen' concept, for a quiz show in India, will enable anyone with internet access and smartphone to join the contest.[4] Bournvita Quiz Contest is airing every Sunday at 9.30 am, starting August 4,2013 on Colors TV.[5]

Amma Kuzhandhaigal Challenge

This show is telecasted as "Amma Kuzhandhaigal Challenge" in Sun TV on Saturday between 05:00 PM and 05:30 PM IST. Both Mother and the child participate as a team representing the school in which the child studies.[6]
